View Full Version : Seriously, Religion: Just A Conspiracy?
Like Topic said, Is realigion just a Conspiracy??
The reason why choose to think this, is because:
I believe that someone, some group of people, had to create the "Bible", and the ten commandments, to try and control people, and create wars with other nations.
Basically to try and control you, so if they aren't able to live and control you forever, a book will.
I however am atheist, I grew up going to church, and reading, and hearing about the bible, but absolutely hated it, and didn't like hearing about it or going to church.
However reviewing that one topic from that moron, stating that Atheists, didn't believe in space being infinite, was some bull-fucking-shit, I don't even know how in the fuck he could conclude this. Because, I know there is infinity space.
But back to my conclusion, do any of you good totseans agree with me, or if not see my point?
You're theory is as baseless as you percieve Christianity to be.
You base your atheism on the fact the you absolutely hated Christianity. You base it on feelings.

No, honestly people are just assholes in general so the religion with the most people of course is going to seem the worse. If it was buddhism, hinduism, islam, whatever you'd percieve that religion to be a conspiracy too.
People will always put their biases into what they do--especially in a religion that's been perverted into a superficial instant gratification religion.

What you say about, jca2006, might be true, however, that does not mean that what he is saying is not right.
Religion has helped a countless amount of people, yet it has probably hurt more.
Wherever religion flourishes, freedom doesn't.
It is probably the simplest way to control the masses.

I'm an atheist, and even I have to point out that that is as baseless as any religious belief.

Just because a particular religion possesses unsavory characteristics doesn't mean it started out that way, nor does it mean that it's founders intended it to turn out like it currently is. All things change, and religion is no exception. True, people have realized (and utilized) religion's power to control the masses, but extrapolating that fact back to its reason for being founded in the first place is a bit much.

This is true. However, there is a somewhat modern example of a religon being formed soley for profit. Scientology.

Control was not the only reason for religion (the reason probably differed from place to place). It was a way to explain the unknown and give hope to the people. It also convinced people that if they were good they would get a prize in the end i.e. heaven (I guess that goes along with my first statement but whatever).

Yes, I agree most aspects of religion are just a conspiracy. I'll explain why, very briefly.
First, if the bible is/was the true word of god handed down, it has been diluted and modified to fit the agendas of people who could gain power by manipulating it. So whatever version we hear now is not the original version, the intent and meaning is probably completely changed to conform to some political agenda from the middle ages (Vatican).
Think of that game you played in kindergarten school, where you whispered a message into the ear of a child next to you, who passed that message on to a next, and so on....by the time the message reached the end it was changed......sometimes drastically......think of that happening to the word of god/bible on the scale of 2000 years, with the influence of politicians and decietful people......guess who's beliefs the bible will reflect, not Gods, but whoever got to interpret his words......
next topic....I believe it was Karl Marx who said Religion is the opiate of the masses. I completely agree. Take a look at the 10 commandments. Those are all great rules to live by. If a ruler could impose those rules on his populace he could easily maintain rule and order. The fear of man can not keep a man docile and obedient, but the fear of god and eternal punishment for disobedience can. Thus you have the ten commandments.....

You bring up a very valid point. If, indeed, it WAS the word of God 2,000 years ago, it is no longer so now.
2,000 years of changing for political and governmental good. And, let's not forget, all the different translations.
I feel the Bible would be better used if it wasn't considered inspired by God, but rather a way in which one should live their lives. The Bible has many great stories of morals.
However, when considering the good, one must also cite the bad.
No one can deny that the Bible is full of deceit, hate, bigotry, and murder.
If, one can filter out the bad and just accept the good, I think the Bible would be better off.
However, in order for this to be possible, believers would not be able to accept the Bible has the word of God, even though things wold be better off.

This is what I love about people assuming what other people base things on, I am not basing my theory on hating christianity whatsoever.
No, you bases your atheism on your hatred of Christianity. Your theory about were Christianity is baseless. You said it yourself.
Also, chickenpoop, how do you know the bible was manipulated?
I think the fact that there are manuscripts from before Catholicism took a political hold in Europe kind of proves that that didn't happen.
Besides, the Bible wasn't handed down all at once from God, it was just some writers under the inspiration of God.

I think you meant 'Christianity' and not 'religion' because that's the only religion you referenced and therefore most of the responses have been about Christianity.
I've written a short paper on religion from a socialogical standpoint and as soon as I get it back (1 week?) I'll post it here on Totse.

Space isn't infinite even if it is endlessly expanding.
The universe has a finite amount of space at any given time.

I disagree with both of your statements. How can we really know what space is?
It's impossible to know.
Two hundred years from now people will be laughing at our so called technology as we laugh at those that came before us.
Remember, everyone believed that the earth was once flat.
