I don't think at that time the church had split.

By that time the christians had split into two parts, Orthodox (in the east, close to jerusalem) and Catholic (all the western countries, such as england, france, spain and the holy roman empire).

The Catholics went on crusades to the holy lands held by the muslims, and the Orthadox church let them through. The Crusaders were suppost to be nice to the orthadox church but i belive that they (especially the germans) ocasionally went crazy and burn down orthadox cities.

from the catholic's point of view it was like

Catholic > Orthodox > Muslim

They didn't like the Orthodox much, but they din't really start a conflict with em either cause their religion wasn't considered as bad as muslims and the Byzantine empire was a powerful ally.

Also, the Byzantine empire (Orthodox) occasionaly helped the catholics, cause they had some conflicts with the Turkish (Muslims).

There's some information on the Crusades in the How to pray the Rosary thread, I think it's on the first page. I don't really understand the OP's question, so I can't offer an answer, sorry!

Catholics and the Orthodox churches were the first official branches of the faith of Christianity. For fucks sake don't listen to DS, Catholics are Christians. And yes the crusades were fought between a united Islamic empire and all the Christian states the Pope could muster. It was mostly Catholics fighting on the Christian side, because the reformation and rise of Protestantism hadn't happened yet.
