Did he die simply because he believed the Roman government was unjust? Where does it say he died for OUR sins?

After reflecting on the story of the man from nazerith(spelled wrong), I think that he let himself be executed to prove a point to his followers. The point is Love and Truth. Love your fellow man even if he doesn't love you and be true to yourself and speak only truth, even in the face of fatal concicuences. This is a point that, to me, seems lost on todays interperters of this story.......and thats very sad. I do not belive in god and I do not belive that this man from nazerith was anything but a man but I still love my life in this way.

I don't believe he was ever a real man at all. Put that shit in your pipe and smoke it.
how can you interpret the Bible any other way?

Column A, B and C.
To have a go at the Romans, to redeem humanity as he probably saw it, to prove a point, and to probably try and justify his own messiah status in the eyes of the prophecies. What with the no broken bones and resurrection, etc.

No criticism intended, but isn't dying for our sins still being a martyr? Still dying for a cause right?
It would take more than one person, son of god or not, to make all of our sins be forgiven... It would either take an army of small children dying for them, or... Yeah the point I'm making is that even dying for something doesn't fix it.

What the fuck?
The Romans didn't even think he did anything wrong. The jews kept telling them to kill him until they finally gave in.

Or maybe...just maybe...he died for his own sins.

Yes you're right, my mistake.
However, it still WAS the Roman gov't who gave and ultimately decided his death.

According to one of the scriptures (at least when you read it in the orginal Greek, not the mistranslation in the KJV), Jesus did not die on the cross.
Most of what he did do--the entrance into Jerusalem on a donkey, for instance--was engineered by the Zealots to serve their own political agenda. However, he lost a lot of their support with that "render unto Caesar" incident.

arms can you cite that for me?
As God is omnipotent he could save our sins himself, no need for Jesus etc. Of course, things are never that simple...
