Cause there's lots of people who call themselves christians when in fact they are nothing at all like Christ. They have not comprehended when he announced a new commandment: "love one another"
quote:LOVE: A PARAPHRASE OF 1 CORINTHIANS 13
If I talk a lot about God and the Bible and the Church,
but I fail to ask about your needs and then help you,
I'm simply making a lot of empty religious noise.
If I graduate from theological seminary and know all the answers to
questions you'll never even think of asking,
and if I have all the degrees to prove it
and if I say I believe in God with all my heart,
and soul and strength,
and claim to have incredible answers to my prayers to show it,
but I fail to take the time to find out where you're at and what makes you/laugh and why you cry, I'm nothing.
If I sell an extra car and some of my books to raise money for some poor starving kids somewhere, and if I give my life for God's service and burn out after pouring everything I have into the work, but do it all without ever once thinking about the people, the real hurting people-the moms and dads and sons and daughters and orphans and widows and the lonely and hurting-if I pour my life into the Kingdom but forget to make it relevant to those here on earth, my energy is wasted, and so is my life.
Here is what love is like--genuine love. God's kind of love. It's
patient. It can wait. It helps others, even if they never find out who did it. Love doesn't look for greener pastures or dream of how things could be better if I just got rid of all my current commitments. Love doesn't boast. It doesn't try to build itself up to be something it isn't. Love doesn't act in a loose, immoral way. It doesn't seek to take, but it willingly gives. Love doesn't lose its cool. It doesn't turn on and off. Love doesn't think about how bad the other person is, and certainly doesn't think of how it could get back at someone. Love is grieved deeply (as God is) over the evil in this world, but it rejoices over truth.
Love comes and sits with you when you're feeling down and finds out what is wrong. It empathizes with you and believes in you. Love knows you'll come through just as God planned, and love sticks right beside you all the way. Love doesn't give up, or quit, or diminish or go home. Love keeps on keeping on, even when everything goes wrong and the feelings leave and the other person doesn't seem as special anymore. Love succeeds 100 percent of the time. That, my friend, is what real love is!

I feel sorry for religious people because they can't see MY truth, I may mock them and look down on them, but I don't hate anyone without getting to know them first.
Blanket hate of a whole people just because they believe different stories than you is always wrong.

Yes, but what right have we as atheists to look down upon them and think of them as backwards even though we shun them for the exact same mindset. Just because someone derives comfort from superstition doesn't mean we should mock them.
They just should not be allowed to try and enforce their views on us, or teach creationism as fact.

you're right, we shouldn't mock them. I can't help feeling superior to them though, and I guess the same goes the other way.. unfortunatley thats just how people work and I'm just another human being.
They feel sorry for me or mock me because I don't subscribe to their truth, and I do the same because they can't see mine.
Isn't humanity wonderful?

I hate intellectual dishonesty. I am yet to meet an intellectually honest christian, to me they seem to be mutually exclusive. Why? because an intellectually dishonest christian holds to a belief about the world that they have no justification for holding and several very good reasons for not holding that belief.
That is why.

I hate close-mindedness (NOT close minded people) because close-mindedness leads to hate.
Religions spawn close-mindedness and they have to; if your mind was truly open and for a moment you didn't just accept your religion as fact (as I used to) then (assuming reasonable intelligence and rationality) you quickly see how fast it all falls apart.
I don't care what you believe as long as you realize it is just a belief.

I'm an atheist, but I dont hate Christians, in fact: I agree with some of their philosophies and I really dig Jesus, but most christians dont seem to follow even their own religion, look at Napoleon, he was "Christian" yet he attacked almost every Christian country in Europe, and by doing that he was helping the Muslims (Ottoman Empire.)
So, I only hate irrationality and hypocrisy, no matter the religion.

In my experience, most Christians don't let their religion impact them too much. Being Christian isn't a defining part of their lives. They are just normal people who happen to believe in God. People have to stop expecting Christians to follow every single belief of their religion. Because Christians make mistakes or immoral decisions that conflict with the teachings of their religion, people are quick to jump on them and say "YOU HYPOCRITICAL BASTARDS!"

Umm, then why do they call themselves "Christians" if they dont follow their religion. If they are just the average person who make s mistakes and immoral decisions but just in general "believe in God" then they shouldn't be called Christians. Atheists also "believe in God" just not in the way that is described in the Bible.
I believe there is a God, but I dont believe "god will be disappointed in you if you dont have my lifestyle or if you dont do such and such." I dont believe in praying cuz I dont believe it does shit, and finally: churches are just full of pointless rituals and well... you get the point.
But if you dont go to church, or very rarely (once a year) and dont practice christianity then... you arent a Christian.
[This message has been edited by Dr.Speed17 (edited 01-02-2007).]
Because they are detached from reality. They are not pragmatic. Historically they have hindered progress. They even destroyed ancient historical text because it didn't preach the word of god or what ever. Their moral doctrine is based off of insanity and only gets in the way. Not to mention it is completly illogical to be a Christian. Most Christians are only Christian because of their neurotic fear of death and their sheep-like way of thinking. It also destroyed the culture of my ancient fathers.
It's an insane form of mental masturbation that detracts from people's view on reality.

Atheists don't believe in God in any way. I wasn't referring to the people who just go to Church for Christmas. I'm talking about Christians who make an attempt and for the most part follow the religion. I'm just tired of people expecting Christians to be perfect, follow every single teaching of the religion, and never sin.

Obscura, not all Christian philosophy is unpragmatic, some of it is pretty damn straight, but yeah most Christian fundamentalists do go apeshit with their way of thinking.
alexander, so let's leave out the word "god" to avoid confusion. When I say I believe in God, I'm referring to metaphysics, the law "what goes around comes around" is true, everything balances out, if you disturb any balance it will backfire. Metaphysics is exact science and you cant deny it, so atheist or not... it doesnt matter. Like I said, I just dont believe in superstitions/churches/praying and other useless rituals because it does not get god on your side.

I don't hate Christians myself, but I do have a little grudge against them which I am quite ashamed of. Although my political beliefs themselves are close to communism I seem to have some sort of a nationalistic side, so the problem I have is the fact that they destroyed all of the existing cultures and religion that existed in Scotland. There is no record at all of what religion the Picts practised and the knowledge about the druidic religions in Scotland is messy and all over the fucking place. Basically they replaced an existing culture which didn't even have the chance to develop or grow with something which wasn't much better. Of course none of the modern Christians did this and I don't hold a grudge against them or indeed the religion, but it annoys me that there is such a large chunk of my own nation's history missing.

It is the ppl who constantly attempt to change me, and cant accept who i am that i hate.
I don't hate Christians. I pity the fools.
I hate all religions that preach the existence of a god or gods or in some cases alien gods. The aim of all religions is to exert some sort of control over their gullible followers by making them believe in non-existent entities, usually for profit, sexual molestation or political reasons. What further pisses me off is that the children that have the misfortune of being born to these retards are brainwashed into believing in their parent's religion, thus again becoming exploited for sex, money and political reasons. I hate all religion with the same passion as I have for hating the state. I do not hate the followers of these religions however, I pity them for not being able to make choices on their own and believing blindly in nonexistent gods. I pity them for allowing themselves to be exploited and I hate all religious leaders. In fact, the only religion I have no problem with is Buddhism because it does not preach belief in god/s and is more of a way of life.

I don't hate christians, but the fact is that christianity is false and christians promote it, and have missionaries all over the world that are converting others to this false belief.
Also christian girls wont have sex with me http://www.totse.com/bbs/frown.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/frown.gif)
I'm an atheist and i don't hate Christians but i do dislike some of the religious people in the world because they look down on me because i don't believe in god/any higher being. For example i once got told by a Christian holy roller that n because i don't believe in God i am being controlled by Satan or something like that. I can be an asshole but if there is a God (which i strongly believe there isn't) then i don't think its fair to label someone as being controlled by the most evil being ever just because of their beliefs.
Also have you ever heard of Jehovah's? Bunch of wankers who walk around trying to force their beliefs on to people, how many atheists have knocked on your door and told you that if you do not stop believing in Christ you're going to be in eternal pain?
I admit there are some atheists that give atheists like me a bad name but if there was no religion then the terrorists of the world would need a better excuse to kill thousands of innocents because they don't believe their gonna have a shitload of virgins waiting for them when they take a dirt nap.
Anyway to sum up, i don't hate religious people just some of their actions like forcing their beliefs and discriminating people like me because of our beliefs (or lack there of) and then say that God wants everyone treated equally.....its retarded.....anyway thats the end of my rant for the evening
