...Knowing everything you do now what religon would you choose? Would you still choose the one you were born with?

I think I would go with Buddhism, although I don't beleive in god the concepts of spirtitual enlightment, and nirvana seem very appealing to me, however I'm not exactly a calm person and can be rather violent which would probably interfere.

I'm not sure, but Buddhism is a very real possibility for me.

And Mr. Kitty, don't you think that Buddhism is exactly the kind of religion to best solve your anger problems, what with the focus on relieving suffering and all?

I'd subscribe to none of them.

Thats actualy a valid point....I think it would be really intresting to get involved in meditating and some other east asian teciniques

What religion would one choose if they could start all over again? Wouldn't it be reasonable to assume that everyone would choose the one they currently choose to believe in, or am I misunderstanding your question?

I think that current biases for/against religions have a lot do with how we perceive them, irrelevant of the actually viewpoints of those religions. The question is really: from a purely objective viewpoint what religion that you know of now seems the most beneficial to people, and might even be right?

Well what about the billions in the past who have converted? .....

Even if alot of those were forced there is still a significant margin who choose at free will.

Huh? That's the one they are currently choosing to believe in.

You sound as if ones religion is set in stone at one point. One can pretty much switch religions williy nilly as long as members of your previous religion are not gunna come after you (as noted in a few cases with Islam).

But knowing what I know now I would be just as naturalistic as I am now.

@Martini: Mr. Kitty is trying to say that there are people who having willingly converted to another religion, so obviously religion is a fluid subject.

@Mr. Kitty: Martini is trying to say that if you were to a pick a religion to start over as one would pick the religion one believed the most strongly in, i.e. the one one currently holds.

I don't think that's what he's saying. Reading the OP again, it seems he may be asking if we could be brought up with the religion of our choice, which would we choose. Am I correct, MR.Kitty55?

Yea, I mean there are obviously so many people who are unhappy with their current religon either b/c of lack of faith or intrest. So if proposed with a choice knowing what you know now, what would you pick.

Paganism to the max. Become at peace and more connected with nature is what I would be more interested in if I could completely start over.

You've totally lost me. If one is currently unhappy with his current religion (for any reason), what is it that he knows now that entails him the wisdom to pick another?

He obviously doesn't know enough to choose another religion (or to be without religion), or he would have already done so.
