If I could choose any one

imaginary super hero to be real

and be my friend, I'd pick

Satan; who was really Prometheus,

but you get the point; He

comprehended eternal torture to

for his people, Christ just got

nailed to a cross.

How is prometheus satan?

He stole fire from the gods and gave it to the people.

QFT.

Innoculation, you've got your mythology mixed up. Just because Prometheus did something with fire doesn't mean he has anything to do with Satan. The original concept of Satan comes from the Zoroastrian (I believe) character called Angra Mainyu, who was later adopted by the Christians who used the character to demonize Jews, turning Lucifer into an evil demi god and changed his name to Satan meaning "adversary".

It has nothing to do with Prometheus. And if Satan were real, he probably wouldn't be so fun to be around considering he thinks all humans should be wiped off the face of existance. So, he probably wouldn't be very nice to you.

Cheers,

He brought knowledge, symbolized in fire. Satan got Eve to eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge; both suffered eternal torture for their bringing of knowledge, thats the connection I was making.

I find it funny how people believe that.

I have never seen it written anywhere, that Satan as ever hurt anyone. In fact I do believe it is written in the bible, that Satan is the reason we have knowledge. God was the one who forbid that we have it.

If I were to read between the lines, I'd say that God was a prick and Satan told him where too shove it.

The serpent didn't give humans knowledge - the serpent tempted humans into pride: into thinking they knew right and wrong. They could have been humble, knowing that they don't know shit - but instead they bit of the forbidden because they pitied their 'worthless' stature in comparison with God's enslaved creatures (angels); the two sought God's knowledge, and found nothing but the serpent's pride - deluding themselves into thinking they know right from wrong when really they know nothing but judgement - which is reserved for God.

This is the basis for humanity's innate 'sin'...judgement is reserved for God, the one that holds true knowledge, not of pride, nor humility, but of absolution. Humans can never know the entirety of what is occuring, thus they are not fit to judge rightly.

Also, 'we are all gods below God': God has true knowledge, and is thus the righteous judge; humans have false knowledge, and are thus the lower judges.

The character of Jesus taught judgement of self only - complete acceptance and compassion towards others: he was the embodiment of the Law which is nothing more than 'God Is'.

The statement 'God Is' doesn't simply mean god exists - it means God is incomprehnsible. This is why idols are forbidden: they are attempts to explain the unexplainable; they are the judgements of humans against God. Idols can be anything really - concepts, objects, organizations, people, animals, mental constructs...worshipping any of these things is a judgement against the only thing that is absolute.

I've got more thoughts on the matter, but this is my understanding of the philosophy that spawned the Bible.

That's probably more of an archetype or collective unconcious type of thing, rather than a direct corellation.

I'm not sure about the rest of Lost's post, but I do understand that the adversary wasn't a big part of Judiasm, and what with Jesus ripping of Mithra hard, the Christian idea of the Adversary is probably the Zoroastrianism god of darkness.

Never heard that name for him before, though.

aren't people just tortured in hell so that they can eventually re-enter society?

He never did hurt anyone, but he was the adversary of the human race. He didn't believe that we were worthy of "gods love" and didn't want to be made a servant to them. And because he was gods most trusted angel god gave him his own domain and own angels so that he may plot against the human race. Of course this story changes a little from religion to religion and Satan was never allowed to actually do anything without consent of god. So, yea, whatever fucked up shit Satan did in the bible, god was in on it.

But, if Satan were real and did exist he probably wouldn't be very nice. Considering he thinks we should be wiped off the face of the universe.
