Evangelicals.
They're extreme right wing views, and their usage of Children to do their dirty work is just wrong. Look at Jesus camp, they are all Evangelicals, and they wanted to wage a war on behalf of god, that's not to say us Catholics didn't do it nine times 1000-800 years ago, but come one. This is modern day North America. The Islamic Holy War is minute compared to what was happening then. There is no siege on Washington and New York City, there are petty attacks with death tolls no more than 2000. And these evangelicals think that they need to use the children to rage a Holy War on a pretty near innocent nation of Islam?
These fundamentalist bible thumpers are using the lord's name to move forward their extremist agenda. God looks down upon them, and when the day of Judgment comes, whether we wait in Purgatory, or pay a fare across the river Styx, the Evangelical extremists are going to have a major problem getting into the Paradise that awaits us.

although that is only one opinion, i would have to agree that any ideology using kids as propaganda tools is just wrong.
that includes mormons, islamic militant children, as well as some political actvists ive seen (in particular hippies) who actually drag their kids out of schools and go on rallies.

What exactly is the problem with Christians teaching their children of their religion?
(I agree with you, but I am curious about people's answers)

They're teaching with a bias. Religion should be a personal thing, and while you should be free to listen to other opinions and give your own, you have no real right to impose your ideas on another. They are adding superflous ideas to their teachings of these kids. What does patriotism have to do with religion?
They are adding onto what they are teaching when they really have no right. There IS a distinction between Religion and Politics, while one can affect the other, they shouldn't be used against each other ... That's not as clear as I'd like it to be, I can't quite get the idea in my head across. There is nothing wrong with giving a child the oppurtunity to choose a religion, but placing them in a situation that is hard to escape and then using that situation to further your own agenda is wrong.
Then again, I doubt I could try and show people the Bible without planting my corrupt liberal views into everything.
Oh well... I'm rambling....

Okay, just for openers--you have to realize that all parents teach a lot more than they intend to--by how they treat their children.
Virtually all parents--at least in the West--punish their children when they disobey by with holding love from them--sometimes they express this by actual physical abuse, other times by "only" being cold, distant, disapproving.
The children assume--logically enough--that God is pretty much the same way--that is, judgemental and abusive. Thus they find it next to impossible to grok that God, in reality, expresses unconditional love, and neither rewards "good" behavior nor punishes "bad" behavior.
This is one reason why there are so many angry young atheists here--they cannot express their hatred/fear of their parents, and so they transfer it to a God.

I express my hatred for my parents on a daily basis, and i still have plenty of hate left for religious fanatics. i have no problem w/ the idea of a god, just w/ those who worship him/her/it.

Are you kidding? I love them, it's what keeps me away from religion, and when ever I watch televangelists, I'm in stitches!

i lol'ed.
i also agree with JA to a point about parents raising their children to fear god and stuff but i would stop short of saying that's why ther are so many young atheists/agnostics out there. it is because we are now in a freeer society. we also have more even influences, not just the priest saying we will all be tortured for 1000 eternities if we give into primal emotions and have sex. your pint about being a correlation between parents behavious to their children personally and the childs hatred of god makes no sense though. it actually contradicts itself if you think how long punishment within the family household has been going on while the offspring of said abusive parents continue to be religious.

Jesus no wonder you're on totse, you had one fucked up childhood man. I'm not sure what part of the west you grew up in but I hope you don't take from your parents when raising your own kids.

It's one thing to teach your kids religious views. It's another to say "Those muslims are using their kids to train for holy war, so let's be as bad as we think they are and use our children!"

"We're training to be warriors, but in a funner way." O_o

Guilting kids into believing is wrong. This Becky Fischer woman is just fucking nuts. Plus, although I prefer bottled water, I wouldn't go so far as to say it's holy. Silly white trash idiots.
