View Full Version : Why does god have to be a man?

Why? He has a choice to be either male or female (or androgenous). If he has this choice, then why is he portrayed as a man? He doesn't need gender. If he chooses to be man, then doesn't that mean that he favours over men and looks down upon women as inferior?

No
to give a few answers:
-It happened that way just because.
-Man wrote the Bible. Man liked Men (hehe). So the Almighty was portrayed as a male.
- God couldn't be called "It," because that would subtract from "his" "humanity." Make him less of a characterization than he already is.
- (The nonexistant) God really isn't (/wouldn't be) a man.

Because the ancient peoples believed males to be the superior gender, and this reflected in their deity.
technically he could come as a squirrel, but he won't and I doubt he will come again, but who knows?

i dont think there is a quote in the bible that mentions god being a man (unless someone can show me)
jesus was a man, but that was god's son.
and besides god made the whole concept of man and woman. if he wanted to , he could have made one gender, or three

I think the argument is that God made man first, in his image and woman came out of Adams rib so she is inferior. It's all mysoginistic crap either way to keep women in their "place"

1 Timothy 2:11-12
A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.

God is a man and a woman combined. He is the Logos(jesus) and Sophia(mary).

In Ultimate Reality, deity transcends gender.
Patriarchal societies invented patriarchal gods. Polytheistic religions invented male and female gods.
One hopes a Wiccan will hop in here and talk about the Goddess.
Moi, when I need a pronoun, I use him/her/it/them/whatever.

Gender is merely a result of evolution and the natural world.
God is not created by evolution, nor the natural world.
God is a spiritual being, in fact, the spiritual being, therefore god is without gender.

Personally, I don't believe in God.
But, if I did, I'd say God could be whatever you wanted them to be.

The bible was written by men.
It does not mean that god was not a she, nor an entity nor an animal or just pure energy or soul/spirit.
It was just recorded that way, say; "One of those things that was lost in the text of propaganda politics and pride"
