View Full Version : worshiping/praying
So, God is omnipotent, and you can't argue that he wants to be worshiped, maybe its just nice to take time out and thank something for what you have, remember people that helped you.
I think thats what God means by praying.
thats exactly it, the point of prayer is almsgiving. saying Thanks, showing devotion, etc. Very rarely do you actually ask for anything.

I think prayer is a kind of meditation. God or no god, it helps people to identify the positives and negatives in their lives and act accordingly.

I don't believe in the so called "power of prayer," nor do I believe that "god" (for lack of a better word) is capable of concious thought, and therefore is unable to judge. And that renders prayer useless. But whatever floats your boat.
neither do I, I was watching Le grand Voyage
It is a movie about, a French Muslims voyage to mecca, with his son. And, I walked in on my boss' mother praying on the floor, * Muslim* I think its cool, that they have dedication to pray, and they find a little place.
Now faith? I have a lot of that, but thats a whole nother topic

Praying is for man, not God.
Praying is an act of contemplating God and yourself.
That's just my opinion though, because I am not comfortable using prayer to "petition God".

Prayer is nothing but a form of self-help incorporated into religions to help brainwash people.

Or to help people to relax and to clear their minds, like in meditation.

That's the self-help part. The brainwashing part is having people actively believe that they are communicating with God and that it's God helping them relax, not the act of praying itself. You can pray to anything, even a rock.
I pray to myself because prayer is useful and if anyone is going to sort me out, it's going to be me.
