I hate to tell you this dude, but the Book of Satan is only a text meant to offend Christians. Satanism is just Atheism with more hate against Christians.

I do think it explains more, though. And I've always wondered who cares more: the god who requires your worship, or a Satan who allows anyone into Hell? God's just jealous so he made Hell sound bad. If, that is, either of them existed.

Satanism is atheism but to mock the christians they chose Satan as their ideal because he stands for rebellion against authority and personal pleasure rather than delayed gratification. I own a copy of the satanic bible and basicly it is 2-3 pages of philosophy and the rest is bullshit "magic". Even the author says the rest is bullshit if you know how to read it.

Well he makes some interesting and valid points about philosophy on life. However you are right. Religion: a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects

notice how it says "by a number of persons" ... that number could be 1 meaning the only believer of that "set of beliefs and practices." now quite being a bigoted fool and realize that any set of beliefs you hold is definitively a religion.

If you want to believe in Satanism, go ahead. Don't let morons like socratic (the name's certainly ironic in this case) ruin it for you. My own personal suggestion is to read it all and keep what you need, metaphorically speaking of course.

I doubt "Marilyn Manson" is hardly a considered a "very powerful" person.

Satanism is a political/social statement, not an actual philosophy. You can interepret it to be a way of life, but that would be pig-headed fucktardism, and that was part of the point LaVey was trying to make in the first place --- people sell out, and if EVERYBODY sold out, individuality would mean nothing. Trying to be the opposite of religion is a religion too.

Come on guys, yes satanism is just a dressed up atheist/secular humanest philosophy, but that dressing is of great psychological importance. We choose the symbology of "Satan" because we were raised Xian and want to reject that. And to intellectually reject something in favor of another philosophy is one thing, but to fully accept that on all levels is quite a different thing. So we commit acts of "blasphemy" in order to gain full psychological acceptance of the ramifications of rejection. If you can spit on a cross, have sex while eating communion wine and wafers, and "worship" a golden cow, that shows that you've gained some level of freedom from the ideology that was ingrained into you throughout your childhood.

This is why the modern black mass can be about any subject, a rejection of any socially imposed standards, rather than just the Catholic Mass.

So modern Satanism is "just" an dressed up atheist/secular humanest philosophy, but the tools associated with that dressing have been quite helpful in many people's personal development.

why was satanism made? my friend keeps trying to convince me to join satanism and i can't think of a polite way to say fuck off. satanism isn't a religion unless you are a fucked up goth who worships the devil, especially the one depicted in the bible (which is fictional, therefore worshiping a fictional character). if you take onto satanism as a way of life...wtf? why not just be agnostic or atheist. the difference between satanism and the two anti-religions mentioned above is that satanism involves stupid rituals and forbids things that should be a personal decision like stealing. i accuse satanism of taking advantage of the weak minded and the stupid just like all other religions.

Too true. LaVey's application leaves a LOT to be desired. But one of the nice things about Satanism is that there are no prophets, no people who are completely and unquestionably right all the time. A Satanist can stand up and say, "You know, I think LaVey got that one wrong." Now have you ever heard a Xian say the same about Moses or Isaiah?

Also you have to be careful to distinguish between Satanists and Satan Worshipers. The first is agreeing with the philosophical viewpoint attributed the the Xian Satan (that if God existed he would be unworthy of our worship; insert comment about sending bears to kill children here). The latter of the two has been described as "Doubly Stupid Catholics", firstly stupid for believing all the rubbish, and secondly stupid for choosing the side that they know is going to loose.

As for your friend, tell him to start reading Nietzsche, which is the source material for most of modern Satanism. He'll ether grow intellectually, or show himself for the kidiot he is. You win ether way.
