I don't pray
if I did, though, it would be to... Nobody, really, just broadcasted. Not really to everyone, just to Nobody.
I would pray by thinking. Forming images, words, sensations, impressions, informing Nobody what it is I want to say to them, what it is I want to do, what it is I want.
It would prolly work by strengthening myself, or by letting Nobody know, giving Nobody a chance to either pat themselves on the back(or whatever), or get started on making things work out like I want.
I pray that I will find happiness in life.
I pray that I can find it through drugs, Or maybe I will find it by falling in love, or I can trap myself in bad faith by finding happiness through wealth, essentially kneeling to the devil.

when i was little i remember praying to god but thats because i knew a little about the bible. now i dont really think i believe in a single god person though. i just sorta always thought we were all equal and part of the same thing. and maybe you could call that thing that is all of us god.
so i never really think about praying anymore. but ive heard that prayer can work and its still good to pray. but who would you pray to if not god? how would they be able to help you? what if just by really believing that your prayers would be answered and visualizing it happening you could actually answer your prayers by will.
but i dont know im kind of high. i always have interesting thoughts when im high http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif)

Praying works because if you focuse all of your energy towards one thing in life, you have a better result.

I pray to god to help me be a good man, and pray that no (or at least less) horrible things will happen in the world.
No, its only use is being a large waste of time.

I don't know about that.
If you truly believe God is going to touch you in your sleep in you pray hard enough, I could in theory see a kind of self-induced placebo effect taking place. Whether or not you were "cured" would obviously depend on a large number of factors, but I think it's plausible.
IIRC a study in America showed that praying for other people certainly appeared to be a (statistical) waste of time, but it didn't cover those who prayed for themselves. Memory fails me as to what it was called though, I'll check on it later.

Yeah, I see what you mean.
I was talking about myself, as no matter how much I prayed or how much I tried to make myself think it had a point, I'd know it wouldn't make a bit of difference.
Sorry "Clifford the Big Red Bong", but this really belongs in "MGCBTSOOYG". So I'm sending it there.

^Good call.
Moi, I pray often, but only to give thanks.
The basic prayer of petition and intercession is superstitious nonsense. God is not Santa Claus.

i know about this forum and i didnt post it here on purpose. i dont believe in any particular religion and i really didnt mean for this to be connected to anything religious. it was supposed to be a spiritual thing, which i thought went better in pd.
and i dont care to read religious views on prayer, so i wont even be comming back here to read replies. thanks for killing my thread http://www.totse.com/bbs/frown.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/frown.gif)

I pray to Loki.
I burn images of the runes that he favors whilst speaking my prayers into the smoke.
Unlike you Christians my prayers are answered.

Two hands working can do more than a thousand clasped in prayer.
~Author Unknown~
I prayed a few times in elemetary school because I heard my religious friends talking about it. Everything I knew about prayer came from my friends, so the whole thing was a rediculous mockery. I would lie in bed with my hands clasped together (with fingers pointing up. Fingers pointing down meant you were praying to the devil!) and close my eyes and plead with God to make things this way or that way. I always ended my prayers with "amen", as though that were some sort of magic word that would make it all work. I became disillusioned with the whole thing pretty quickly.
