If god is love why would he send us to hell?
I was reading the bible awhile ago, and it says "god is love", so if he loves every human, why would he send us to eternal damnation is hell?
Doesn't make sense to me.

When has anything "god" has ever done made sense?

Wait. It actually says "God is love" in the Bible, or are you saying that's the conclusion you came up with.
Anyway, He doesn't "send" people to Hell. If He did, then He would be able to say "Even though you have all these sins, I'm gonna let you into Heaven anyway." But that does not happen. Instead, people MUST go to Hell (if it even exists) because their souls can't make it into Heaven.

If god is love, doesn't that mean he loves everything?

No
If "God is Love," that means that God is love. Not that He loves everything. Anything that feels love, feels God.
Either way, what's your point?

well, in my opinion.
The God of the old testament could beat the shit out of the God of the new testament.
God of the OT- "you disobey me...I KILL YOU!"
God of the NT-"its okay...I'll forgive you"

I'm reading the new world translation, what are you guys reading :?
Here is the part that makes no sense:
Parent sees a child misbehaving.
Parent spanks child so they will not do that anymore.
Child behaves.
God sees child misbehave.
God sends them to hell. Forever. No chance to behave again.
Now some people say that 'jesus is the one who saves you, and you have to be on earth for that to happen.'
If i were to go to hell it would be because of lack of faith in God. The only way to remedy this is to prove that God exists, ergo die. So, i am corrected. Now i am a person who lived a moral life, helping people when he could who now believes in God, but i go to hell. Forever.
Makes PERFECT sense.

God IS love; Hell is a myth--no such place.
Next question, please. . . .

There is no god - love is an illusion. Next question.

I disagree. God is an idea. Love is an emotion. Both are trivial.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't there supposed to be a time when Jesus comes back and everyone has a chance again, and then the people get earth and the Jews get heaven?
Still, the people who reject God then will go to hell too, and being sent to hell for thousands of years is still a screwed up, inhumane punishment.

lawl. see, the bible is too open to interpretation. that is half the reason in my mind why there are so many biblical religions, why so many people follow them and more indirectly, why so many god damn wars were started over it.

According to Dante's theology, God doesn't send anyone to Hell. An evil person's soul is supposedly so full of guilt that it is unable to be in the presence of God's love. It willingly declares all of the sins it created during its lifetime and accepts what punishment it deserves.
That being said I belive it's all a bunch of supersticious BS created to keep believers in line.

Jesus already returned and died of malnutrition. He'll try again when there's not half a billion people starving.

The Bible says that God is merciful and loving, but even more than that, he is just. So when people do things wrong, and reject him until judgment day, they will go to hell. God will send them, not want to, but because he is perfect he will have to. Imagine this, you are in a court room, and you are guilty of murder. The jury finds you guilty and the judge, if he is a good judge, will send you to prison. God is a perfect judge, so he will send you to hell.

Do you think that not believing in a God because of no empirical evidence but leading a good life, never harming anyone, is deserving of eternal damnation? Do you really think that is just?
But of course, God made the rules, God made hell, so God calls the shots. He's a totalitarian fascist.

Was that it? A logical fallacy (argumentum-ad-populum), Thomas Aquinas's design argument that David Hume refuted(which also takes care of the whole "improbability of chance" thing), and the bible?
PS, our sense of right and wrong is not so inherent when you start looking into ethics, it's very, very muddied. (there's also very good reasons for morality without God, such as John Stuart Mill's Utilitarianism and Kant's Categorical Imperative, plus science currently has theories that it's innate in our genes, like Chomsky's linguistic ideas, via evolution).
And do you really think anyone is deserving of an eternity of the worst suffering possible?
