It's a unique religion in that we actually have an explanation for it's existence and current history. It actually is all a big scam and it's creator was a certified nutball--which is where all the hatred of phsyciatry comes from, I would hate psychology if I was a delusional God figure too. I think we can all agree that scientology is nothing but a scam when you take away everything where as other religions where at least once designed to help people.

What makes you think all the other religions are any different from Scientology? Scientology claims it's there to help people, all religions claim to help. They create a false problem, tell you there's something innately wrong with you and that only they have the answer, along with this they make wishful thinking - the desire for immortality - to become true. It's a neat package to sucker people in.

If you read the OT, Jesus doesn't exactly come off as a smart guy. Just another Hubbard.

Uh, where is Jesus in the OT exactly? The bible has been tampered with extraneous material as well so that's not a good example. You're just an "OMGXIANSSUCK" imbecile. There is a difference between a religion that was started to help people and one that was started specifically to make money under the pretense of helping people.

Scientology is dangerous, but it isn't entrenched in society like Christianity. We can openly mock and critisize Scientology (and rightfully so), but outside of internet forums and the occasional book being published, Christianity and indeed almost *all* religion is regarded as above rational questioning by the general public.

Unlike Islam, Christianity, and Judaism, there is absolutely NO historical basis for Scientology. It's an insult to religion itself. It's like a sci-fi cult or something.

My bad about the OT, I meant NT. I also know it's been tampered with and how do you know why the religion started? You were there, were you? I was merely speculating.

edit - ps, I try to refrain from stooping down to childish name calling. I hope next time you reply to a post of mine, I'm not going to find sentences like "You're just an "OMGXIANSSUCK" imbecile." in your response.

I can agree that they're crazy. The voice of Chef is retarded for siding with his religion over South Park.

You're forgetting that it's still a cult (as far as I remember)...It was denied religion status because of all the shady bollocks that was going on.

Scientologists are not crazy...Just really, really stupid.

They believe that the "religion" will save them and give them immortality but to be part of that "religion" you have to pay the moolah to get tested and counselled and shit.

Basically, the rich people are paying millions to this load of shite for some sort of salvation!

As for the comparisons with other religions, well, religions were created at some point to guide people. To give them a set of rules to live by to be a good person.

Scientology however was only created to make money for the certified lunatic who was L Ron Hubbard under the guise of teaching them the truth.

After all is said and done, how the fuck can you believe in a belief structure created by the festering mind of a shitty sci-fi novelist?!?!

Scares me, fascinating to read about though. Look up 'Sea Org'.

Just because it is a known and obvious scam does not mean that it can't yeild oblivious followers. Mormans are still rampant! Really though, we have to narrow these sci-fi religions down to one. I say we choose Jedi for survival and the rest sentenced for failure.

He must of had something good going on in that festering mind. The people who get into it only know bits and pieces I guess, if you told them about aliens or, even worse, the crazy tough heirachies and how much of your life and money you have to dedicate to scientology they'd probably run a mile.

A while back when I knew nothing about it I checked out the official website and I couldn't find what was so bad about it all. I had to look beyond the websites controlled by scientologists to find out what was REALLY going on.

The Internet can't be doing scientology any good. Interestingly enough an Anti-scientology website was removed from the top of googles search results, apparantly it went against copyright or something ridiculous. It's as if their beliefs are owned, and you access them you have to give money.

Just google Xenu and see for yourself.

Scientology has the same hierarchy structure and methods of recruiting as most religions. Scientology is just more open about it http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif)

But think about what Scientology does...makes their members happy through false promises of a greater life, without addiction and all the other "scary" things people see in the news. Isn't that the ultimate goal of most modern religions ? Make people happy by giving them a purpose and some kind of promise of a "better life to come."

...Scientology still really freaks me out though. I went into one of the churches on E....Scariest moment of my life http://www.totse.com/bbs/eek.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/eek.gif)

Alien tyrants don't lie behind the higher levels of other religions.
