Any one else think that the Fox News guy is a total asshole? Fucking A. You can have a radical Christian talk about a race the promotes the removal of religion. Should of picked a better interviewer.
Anyways - http://www.blasphemychallenge.com/ - What you guys think of that? I think its a pretty cool idea. Great way to outreach to people who dont want to be forced by family or other means into believing in something. I think I'll post a video on there soon.
Discuss.
I hate topics that end with "discuss".

Any reporter from Fox News is a moron. Just look at O'Reilly.

McCarthyism, as you know directly affected those who lost their jobs, which is predicted to be 10,000 people. It also affected every day people such as teachers, professors, and principals. An example of this is when in the late 1950’s students at the University of Chicago made a petition to get a coffee-vending machine put in. Their colleagues refused to sign. The reason was not the one it should have been; not wanting a coffee machine installed. Instead the actual reason was because “they did not want to be associated with the allegedly radical students whose names were already on the document”(Schrecker, Ellen). This led to teachers and thinkers of all types to shrink back inside the box, trying to stay under the sweeping radar and staying as uncontroversial as possible. “A silent generation of students populated the nation’s campuses, while their professors shrank from teaching anything that might be construed as controversial”(Schrecker, Ellen). As you can see McCarthyism was much more serious than it seemed on the surface, and had adverse effects.

They'll probably hate me there for this, but I'm going to go out on a bit of a limb here and move this to My God, etc...

After watching the video though, I have to say that I completely disagree with the atheist. My mother raised me Christian, and although I am not sure whether I believe in God any more, it left me with a clear understanding of right and wrong and how to treat others.
I don't count it as an injustice at all. I believe my mother did the correct thing in giving me some kind of guidance in life.
Even if you don't believe in God, "Treat others as you would be treated." is still an incredibly valid message.

Interestingly enough, I was not raised religious and I, too, have a clear understanding of right and wrong and how to treat others.
edit: Personally, I agree with the atheist in that religion can be psychologically damaging to a certain extent, with everyone being affected in different ways, of course. He just comes off as a little overzealous.

Hah! You are so spot on. The damage comes when you realize it is all probably fake. You grow up all your life with the "knowledge" that when you die there will be a pleasant little vacation spot waiting for you. You go through your life believing there is a loving god up there that is soooo compassionate that he became a man to suffer with us idiots and earn our salvation.
Once you let go and realize it's all probably nonsence life becomes dull, expectations are shattered, hope is lost. Everything you see is in shades of grey where there used to be color. You keep going through life with the ever-present hope that "god" will someday introduce himself and reassure you that everything is ok, you will see your lost loved ones again, you will get a final resting place deviod of sorrow, stress, sickness, etc. and full of bliss.
And in the end You just wish you were never taught religion in the first place.
Realizing heaven and god dont exist is a sad day.

I did that ages ago before I was aware of that website to prove that I really do not believe in Christianity.

The atheist should have argued that his challenge wasn't the evil attack on religion and morality that the reporter from Fox made it out to be. If this were a theist site asking for its supporters to make vidoes of themselves proclaiming their religion there wouldn't be a problem.

That was hilarious. Fox news must be a fucked up news station, that guy was a complete biased nut christian. If I wanted my face on the internet I would do it but I'd rather not. I choose to do the blasphemy challenge atleast once a day on my own.

Interesting topic.
I visited both linkc and noticed a couple fallacies. First of all the bible says that the only way to the father is through christ. It also says the only way to the kingdom of god is by obeying the ten commandments. If these are broken than your only remaining option is No.1, almost impossible to do.
Piont being is christ is not the only way to heaven, contrary to popular belief and the assertion of Mr. Blasphemy Challenge.
Secondly the holy spirit is arguably the most benign facet of the "trinity." The "holy spirit" is the dove of peace, it is characterized as a spirit of peace, happiness, and love towards others. The "holy spirit" has yet to make a a major appearence in our world but the book of revelations asserts that the age of the father (an age of absolute obedience) began after the age of wandering (IE jews in egypt) and ends with christ, the age of the son began with christ (a 2000 year age of forgiveness marred by bloodshed and violence), and the age of the holy spirit (aka "pentacost" by some christians, it happens after armageddon and is a 1000 year age of prosperity, peace, and massive population growth. I believe the bible also states people will live much longer during this period). After this age the final battle is supposed to take place after god releases "satan" whom decievs and gathers a massive host of humans to fight god.
Interesting the bible should place the holy spirit on such a high plateu. I dont think I will be doing this challenge as I have no desire to mock a spirit of tranquility and am too afraid to.
The other fallacy is this Mr. Blasphemy indeed left out the "prophet" muhammad and the quran; there are many similar verses in the quran to base such a challenge on. Perhaps he is afraid to? If so I don't blame him.

That's exactly the point. Why are you too afraid to mock such a tranquil presence that there's no evidence for? That's psychological warfare, baby.

Actually, as Mr Blasphemy mentioned on Fox, a lot of the people do blaspheme against the Koran and other religious texts.

Some christians view the holy spirit as God himself, which would also explain why it is written to be the only eternal sin. What better way to scare the population into avoiding non belief by saying if you do even god wont forgive you. Some also view the holy spirit as the force that gives them power to convert people, and bring them on the path to jesus.
Its not the only eternal sin though. Satan was banished to hell never to be forgiven for trying to be like god. Wierd how Jesus wants everybody to be like christ, or be like god.

Look at this crazy fuck who took the blasphemy challenge. I dont really know much about what they believe. All i could find was that the guy in the video. The guy who started the religion was contacted by aliens and they told him the experiment they had done. In creating life on earth. And before the aliens return majority of the population has to believe in it. Intelligent design popped up a few times in there website, so do they not believ in evolution, if so there idiots. The same as any other religion

Well as I stated above, wether it exists or not I would rather mock a malevolent spirit, like "satan" or "alla" than a benovelent one like the "holy spirit." I think the whole world could use some "holy spirit" (figurativly speaking) And I also said I am afraid to, I also should have stated I have no reason to, wether it exists or not, wether I am afraid to or not.
And I think you missed part of my other point, being that the most benign of the trinity is considered so important that to mock it "seals your fate." This indicates "god" indeed wants peace, as opposed to other "gods"

I didn't say this didn't happen. I was referring to Mr. Blasphemy's website that mentions the bible yet doesnt touch the quran. Hipocrite, however I sympathise with him if it was out of fear. Make no mistake, Mr. Blasphemy seems more level-headed and down-to-earth to me than the Fox guy, but the fox guy did make one valid point.

Well that would go against the trinity concept. It would also go against the fact that moses saw three connected dieties on Mt. Sinai. It would go against the popular fundi jewish assertion that he is a triune god.
quote:boozehound420 wrote:

First of all non-belief is not blasphemy. Blasphemy is mocking "god" or claiming to be god.
Second of all the quran has much better methods of scaring people into avoiding belief, such as saying the non-believers will have their skin scorched off but "alla" will make their skin "anew so they can continue tasting the torment." And make no mistake about it, this applies to all non-believers.

I would think most do. Were I a believer I would probably say the same thing.

Well thats a little incorrect as satan did not try to be like god but rather usurp his position. There is nothing wrong with trying to be "like" god, so long as you recognize that he is god do not try to take on the role of "god."

Sure Fox is a little biased but BBC hasn't aired anything yet about the Channel 4's recent (and scary) dispatches program.
Atleast Fox keeps us informed of the threats from the left while CNN and MSNBC inform us of threats from the right.
