View Full Version : Richard Dawkins - The God Delusion
Has anyone read that book? I think it is genius and refutes every single argument and provides infinite amounts of evidence that promote disbelief.

I just finished 'The Blind Watchmaker' a few weeks ago and would like to read more of Dawkins' work.
However, I'm number 17 on a waiting list at the library for this book...
And it's sold out at Borders.

Yes, and it's a very interesting read.
For those who can't obtain it in hard-cover, might I suggest looking online for an audio book?

Heres the movie, part one is the god delusion, part 2 is the virus of faith. I havent read the book but I'm told the movie covers everything the book does.

I pre-ordered this book and waited at the edge of my seat for it to ship to me. It DID NOT disappoint.
My second favorite book of his is an older one - Climbing Mount Improbable.
Funniest book review yet for The God Delusion:
"If this book doesn't change the world -- we're all screwed."

It's one of my favorite books ever. If anyone wants a PDF of it, or a few other of Dawkin's books, I could do a sendspace or rapidshare of them.
P.S. I just started The Selfish Gene yesterday and it is, as predicted, excellent.

Which version of The Selfish Gene do you have? He updated it in 2006...
FYI

Yep, that's the one I have.
I just watched the God Delusion and I'm about 15 minutes into the Virus of Faith, and I gotta say, while I do agree with Dawkins quite a lot, I don't think that his methods are going to change ANYONE'S mind. He does a whole lot of preaching, and people do not like being preached at, unless they already agree with what's being said. He just comes off as so arrogant when he's talking to religious people, I'd be absolutely shocked if ANY of them did not get offended, let alone think, "Hey, you know, this guy makes a lot of sense." I also don't think I've yet heard him say anything these people haven't heard before.
Of course, maybe his goal is not to change the religious community's mind, but simply to vent about how unreasonable they often are (which is true). Then again, like I said, I've only so far watched one and a quarter movies on it, and maybe his books are better at explaining things.

He says his goal in The God Delusion is not to change the minds of the extremely religious, but just the minds of those 'on the fence'.

I'm probably going to sit down at some point this weekend and watch that link (thank you by the way Boozehound!). But a question I have for you more seasoned types is, have you read anything or seen anything that has changed your views? I don't mean if you are a theist or agnostic and suddenly you "saw the light". But it seems that most of us on this thread are already "dyed in the wools" and nothing is going to change our minds.
The only reason why I haven't picked up Dawkin's books or whatnot, is that I don't really feel the need to confirm what I already know. Or I am just being a cheap ass.

There's the online version of the article I think you were referring to, if anyone wants to read it.
