Like Hare_Geist, I'm hoping to learn more about religion by reading some texts.

I'm on a tight budget so I'd rather not have to purchase too many books, so could anybody give me a pointer towards some good, free, online texts?

[Thanks in advance, and sorry if it doesn't belong here.]

Thanks, they're some pretty good resources. Would you recommend any specific texts to read?

Depends on what you're looking for, really. If you buy a book now or in the near future, I'd like to recommend:

Breaking the Spell - Religion as a Natural Phenomena by Daniel Dennett

I feel this book is so important, that I would be willing to loan my very own personal copy of it out to a complete stranger.

I'll see if I can find a place online that has it in PDF.

It investigates the natural history of religion and faith. Great read.

I saw it recommended in the other thread and after reading the synopsis it seems pretty close to what I'm looking for, so thanks.

www.e-sword.net (http://www.e-sword.net) has many bible versions, commentaries, hebrew and greek to english dictionaries, strongs concordance, some stuff by Spurgeon (if i recall), josephus's Wars of the Jews, Tozer's The Pursuit of God, Martin Luther's Concerning Christian Liberty, josephus's Antiquities of the Jews, Ante-Nicene Fathers (9 volumes)

and tons more. Even some illustrations and maps.

There's old stuff and modern.

And most of it costs my favorite amount... FREE... there are some things that can be bought, but i think most of those were bibles versions, and with the ones that are free, i havent seen a need for those.

Oh ya, almost forgot that the program itself. Cross reference the bible versions, search passages, etc. Most of the pieces of the download can be used from the front of the program. Things like the maps and illust. and Josephus' works dont seem to work from the front, but if your doing those i doubt if you are checking the commentaries... although, maybe there is a way to do that too.. seems like every time i use it, i find out something new... then again, if i would have read the directions.. lol.

i used to have a link to listen to some C.S. Lewis, but awhile back i had to wipe out the hard drive... if anyone happens to know of the site, it would be appriciated.

Ya, i googled but none of the ones that came up were as complete.

C.S. Lewis

I used to really like his Narnia books when little, so it pains me to hear his attempts at being a theologist.
