View Full Version : I'm Leaving Totse For Good.

Not.

I've always wanted to post a threat like that.. because I always get a kick when someone claims they are leaving totse.

Like.. anyone cares.. or even believes them!!

Well there *are* going to be changes around here tho.

I am in the middle of both moving and traveling.. like I have been planing for quite some time.

I just will not have the time nor net access over the next few months, in order to properly participate as a Moderator.

As some of you may remember I moved to a town just north of Seattle from Florida about 2.5 years ago.

My original plans was to move to Canada.. but I have not been convinced after visting it.

The fact is I am still not quite sure about any country.

I just know I want to leave America... before God's done judging it.

Sooo I've settled on a good compromise with myself by selecting Alaska for the intrim.

Although still technically part of the United States, from my understanding most Alaskans want nothing to do with the 'lower 48'.

There are basically no people up there actually; less than 1 mill and they all live in Anchorage mostly.

I am exited because I feel that if my applications to other countries don't go as I please, at least there is plenty of land or wilderness that I can eventually settle down on.

I *think* I am ready to at least try and re-enter the work force after being declared 100% permanently disabled 3 years ago.

Well there sure has been some changes both in this forum and in Totse as a whole since I became a member nearly 4 years ago.

Totse, in my opinion, is under a grave threat..

If we don't start utilizing our rights, to speak freely.. soon..

We will be in jeopardy..

Of loosing this priceless gift..

By forfeit :(

But for the people that have contributed to this forum (and you know who you are)..

You are the ones I will always remember, and will be in my prayers.

As far as my enemies..

Well, I'll pray for you tooo (but i won't say for what ;)

I am considering visiting a meetup in the Seattle area before I leave, but since time is sooo short, I may forgo it and wait until I either decide to stay in Alaska, which I should know within several months, or wait until I move to another country.

Speaking of which, Ireland was high on my list, but they act like they want NOONE there from America.. so I am aprehensive.

Chili is a good candidate, if some friends decide to move there as well, whom are from there.

So I must give up my Modship now.. but it will all be very good :)

It will give others the chance to benefit, from a once in a lifetime adventure.. that is worth much more than gold :)

I will visit this form, either as Halvy101 or another nick, sometime in the future.. for sure :)

Love,

Your friend,

Halvy :)

While I certainly agree with your sentiments, I think you will be hard pressed to find a country with more freedoms than america. For all its shortcomings, its still the best out there. Plus its easier to fight the monster when you're on the inside. http://www.totse.com/bbs/wink.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/wink.gif)

Yeah if you are looking for freedom of speech don't come to Canada. Simply by what I post on totse I'd have had my balls removed by the human rights commission asap if they knew my name and address.

But if you happen to come by Toronto or Kingston be sure to let me know.

It would be better if you kept your modship for redundancy as momentarylapseofreason is a fag and he can't mod for shit

I feel you Halvy.

HAI FIVE

By not being a regular poster in RFA, and therefore not having the "rep" to officially say goodbye, I'd just like to say thanks.

You really did, however passively, teach me a lot..

You taught me about wavelengths, Rx/Tx ratio, and a lot of valuable stuff about broadcasting in general.

If I don't speak to you again, or ever, I hope you have a good life. You seem like a honest person for all it's worth, and you will be (if not already) very successful..

Peace buddy.

Big time peace.

Since I never post in RFA I can't say much really, but good luck with the move and such, hopefully everything goes fine and I will see you posting again soon.

And if you don't mind me asking, how did you get yourself declared 100% disabled?

"Although still technically part of the United States, from my understanding most Alaskans want nothing to do with the 'lower 48'."

Not to be the bearer of bad tidings, but as an Alaskan, I can tell you that with the exception of climate, it's not really that different from the rest of the US. Anchorage has typical big city problems, the rest of the primary cities (Sitka, Juneau, Ketchikan, etc) are similar to small-town communities), and if you decide to go with a village... well, you're living in a village or the bush.

Most of the 'us and them' attitude stems from disagreements over outside interference on environmental or resource issues.

Alaska's most definitely American, with all the good/bad that goes with it.

Places to consider living:

(all very laid back countries)

Norway (highest standard of living)

New Zealand (very liberal, and beautiful place to live)

Rio De Janiero, Brazil (VERY beautiful beaches and women.. plus its cheap, for a 9 bedroom villa on the oceanfront i saw it was $240k !!!! American money is about 3.5 x's better than the Real.

Sweden (very chill, scandinavian countries let you do what you want, as long as you dont hurt people, high taxes, but beatiful blondes and high standards of living.)

-

Consider each one of the places, anyone, if you don't want to live in the US.

Brazil is an up and coming place to live, and if you can tolerate the police and shit, you are coo. English speakers are highly valued for teaching english to business men. Look at pics of Rio omfg omfg omfg.

The bitches there are perhaps the best. They walk on the beach with g-strings and perfect asses, and like americans. An oceanfront condo is a steal for $175k, however humans rights are considered sub-par.

"Milk and gasoline are expensive, and there aren't any roads."

I'm not sure exactly how well milk and gasoline prices compare to the continental states. Half gallon tends to run about $2, loaf of cheap bread at $1. Should keep in mind that there's also a $7.50 minimum wage, annual PFD (Permanent Fund Dividend, oil money) dole, and a bunch of public programs.

As for paved roads, you'll find plenty of them in any city of moderate size (as in not village) or larger. Even the smaller places like Hoonah and Haines have them.

Hate to burst you bubble ,but you've been in it long enough. Your freedom of speech is not that free ,your censorship is far more strict than Australian's and I'm sure most of the rest of the free world.
Your workers rights are dismal, as is your health care, welfare.Google it find some facts .

Come to dunedin, and work as a op for canterbury mountain radio.

AND as a bonus you can say what u want. ppl will tell u to get fucked if they dont like it but ppl dont get arrested for speaking their mind. unless its a public safety is involved.

thank you very much to those who have responded concerning my escapades :)

i have had little time or chance to respond properly until now.

i also wanted to have material to share.

here is a summary of my move..

i have / or will submit a serparate thread on some items directly related to radio/electronics, asap.

well needless to say when i arrived at Seattle International Airport, i was look upon with much interest and obvious foolishness by the authorities.

i even had some wannabe 'security' fem come over to me while i was rearainging my items prior to my departure and peer into my suitcase.

i, being the always kind and gentleman that i am, simply look at her with complete oblivian, and smiled.. and said something like "is everyone ok?".

i also had two drips walk by me while i was stuffing my face at burger king, as they said: "look, there he is..".

lol..

sooo then i guessed i looked soo green about going to alaska, that this kid (young man actually) asked me while we waited to board, if it was my first trip to ak.

then, while i was seated on the plane.. while everyone was still getting seated, i become frantic. i was getting a terrible case of clostrophobia.

i began to panic alot and seriously thought about 'running' off the plane.

however before i knew it.. we began to taxi...

well it was quite a long time since my last plane flight.. and therefore i forgot the absolute wonderful feeling.. of those tremendouse engines...

as the plane raced down the runway.. probably around 150 miles per hour.. just before take -off.

it was still light and as we flew north westerly towards anchorage.. so there was always at least a small glimps of the sun (it was nearly sun down when i departed).

upon arrival i was greeted by my fon and bank card refusing to work, even tho i had planned on everything being 'ok' for my trip, for about 10 years :(

the 'hostel' was just that my first night.. but i put up with it until morning, when the first snow that i had seen since i was a child-- began to fall :)

from then on everything seems to be getting better each day.

i have not been gone quite 3 months but i believe that alaska may be a good home base, at least for the forseeable future.

it is soo true that you need to be here and talk to people who know the state, in order to find out what you need to do, to survive this rugged land.

i am giving america 'one more chance'.. and ak is this chance.

i really hate giving america *anything*..

but from what i have been learning here.. this state seems to be more like a different country, than part of the terminally ill beast, we foolishly call: The United States.

people have a general distain for the 'lower 48'.. as they do for the federal government. there is always a movement to seperate from the cancerous 'lower'.

alaska.. is like america was.. maybe 50 years ago, in many ways.

some of these ways are very good.. like how people seem to be very nice, honest, and wholesome.

but my plans are to still travel after i have found some land here to either lease or buy. i think it will be much more productive for me to travel, without the concern of 'having' to deal with consulates of other countries, with the pressure of trying to move there, while on a visitors visa.

i plan on visiting other countries in order to study at their univerities, while leisurely enjoying the people and lands...

then.. if i feel a country would accept a former American like myself (with such a controversial past), then i would consider applying for permanent residence there.

this with all the knowledge that if i did not come across a land that i would feel welcomed in, .. that i always had a place in alaska that i already feel somewhat safe in.

i will spend the balance of the warm season here, which ends supposedly quite quickly around september i'm told.. trying to prepare for the very exciting.. but dangerous winters here.

and because i am still not in the work force it will take me time to get an 'alaskan' vehicle, a cabin in the woods, hopefully with land.. and the replacement of some equipment that i left in washington.

i will not be able to write and visit this forum as much as i would love to, because of the pressing projects that i have pending.

i hope everyone enjoys my summaries... and although i will eventually set up a private web site that will continue this story..

i will meanwhile enjoy the far-out upgrades that Jeff performed on this timeless forum. :)

it was still light and as we flew north westerly towards anchorage.. so there was always at least a small glimps of the sun (it was nearly sun down when i departed).

~ Note about the sunlight - during the latter six months you'll find decreasing sunlight to the point of having about 6 hours of daylight during the winter and 6 hours of night during the summer. I think you said you're in Anchoage? So you're not far enough north to have darkness or daylight all day long.

upon arrival i was greeted by my fon and bank card refusing to work, even tho i had planned on everything being 'ok' for my trip, for about 10 years :(

~ Alaska's little inconveniences, gotta love them.

the 'hostel' was just that my first night.. but i put up with it until morning, when the first snow that i had seen since i was a child-- began to fall :)

~ Make sure you invest in a good warm winter coat and sturdy pair of boots. Look for Goretex products.

from then on everything seems to be getting better each day.

i have not been gone quite 3 months but i believe that alaska may be a good home base, at least for the forseeable future.

~ It's a nice place to live if you can deal with the extended darkness during the winter and the brutal cold that can sometimes spring up on you. From what I hear, Anchorage is starting to have some of the gang problems of larger cities, but it's still pretty rustic, comparatively.

it is soo true that you need to be here and talk to people who know the state, in order to find out what you need to do, to survive this rugged land.

~ As long as you stick with Anchorage, you won't have to worry about being too far out of touch and deep in the rugged. It's probably got the densest accumulation of population in the state as well as the benefits that go with that.

i am giving america 'one more chance'.. and ak is this chance.

i really hate giving america *anything*..

but from what i have been learning here.. this state seems to be more like a different country, than part of the terminally ill beast, we foolishly call: The United States.

~ Don't set your standards too high. Alaska's got its own set of problems, some of them American in nature, some of them associated with being an oil-rich state. See the current oil-related events in your newspaper including the Corrupt Bastards VECO scandal, the AGIA act and the attempt to develop a new pipeline by Governor Sarah Palin for details.

people have a general distain for the 'lower 48'.. as they do for the federal government. there is always a movement to seperate from the cancerous 'lower'.

alaska.. is like america was.. maybe 50 years ago, in many ways.

~ Depends on where you are and the company you keep. There's still a pioneer mentality in a lot of places, as well as the density of native population.

some of these ways are very good.. like how people seem to be very nice, honest, and wholesome.

~ For the most part, yeah. The worst problems we have here are welfare mentality and domestic abusers and thieves. There's the occasional profile murder and minor gang incidents, but mostly pretty decent.

but my plans are to still travel after i have found some land here to either lease or buy. i think it will be much more productive for me to travel, without the concern of 'having' to deal with consulates of other countries, with the pressure of trying to move there, while on a visitors visa.

~ Depending on how much travel you do, be sure to apply residency since you'll qualify for the Permanent Fund Dividend within two years of being a resident of Alaska. This is oil money that they hand out to every single resident (age-irrelevant) of the state each year. You *do* have to spend the majority of the year (200+ days, I think?) in state to remain qualified, but it's a nice little handout that has been $800 at its absolute lowest, and as high as $1900. Needless to say, for some people October is party-time when the mailouts begin.

i plan on visiting other countries in order to study at their univerities, while leisurely enjoying the people and lands...

then.. if i feel a country would accept a former American like myself (with such a controversial past), then i would consider applying for permanent residence there.

~ Controversial past? I've only browsed this forum a bit - so if you don't mind the curiosity - who are you?

this with all the knowledge that if i did not come across a land that i would feel welcomed in, .. that i always had a place in alaska that i already feel somewhat safe in.

i will spend the balance of the warm season here, which ends supposedly quite quickly around september i'm told.. trying to prepare for the very exciting.. but dangerous winters here.

~ Just need a decently insulated place to live and good supply of warm winter clothing. It can be dangerous if you don't live in proper accomodations, and there's always water freezing, but it's not like living backcountry.

and because i am still not in the work force it will take me time to get an 'alaskan' vehicle, a cabin in the woods, hopefully with land.. and the replacement of some equipment that i left in washington.

~ Priorities as far as "alaskan" vehicles go are a good set of snow tires and rust-friendly exterior.

Another Alaskan checking in--we have roughly 650,000 pop, about half of which live in Anchorage--which is NOT to be confused with Alaska.

Politics are incredibly corrupt, and we lead the nation in men murdering women, rape, domestic violence, alcoholism, deaths by drowning and deaths by gunshot wounds. The native suicide rate is five times the national average.

And what freedom we once have is rapidly being eroded by people who want the state to be like California, only colder. Much colder.

Even with global warming (the glaciers are melting etc), there is snow on the ground half of the year, and winter seems to be forever. SADS is a major issue here.

Halvy :)

I'm not trying to insult you here, but this is merely what I believe will happen if you leave the U.S.

For the first couple of years, you will love it, and the United States will look even worse by comparison. But gradually, you will like the country less and less and will realize the U.S. wasn't as bad as you thought it was.

However, this does not mean you will want to move back. Although I do believe it is a possibility.

"Modern Liberals, With Some Exceptions, Are Fascists. They Preach Peace At The Expense Of Liberty, Diversity At The Expense Of Common Sense, Equality At The Expense Of Fairness And Choice At The Expense Of Life. They Are The First To Speak About Rights, Yet They Seek To Deny You Yours If You Disagree With Them. They Vociferate The Importance Of Free Speech, Yet Do Everything In Their Power To Stifle Yours. They Demonize The Very System Which Allows Them The Freedom To Criticize In The First Place, And They Are The Last People In Line When It Comes To Defending The One Country On Earth That Would Ever Tolerate Their Hypocrisy. They Are Divisive, Immoral And Utterly Incapable Of Understanding Why Everything I Just Wrote Is The Truth." - Edward L. Daley

Hey, sorry to hear that you didn't like Canada. I think you should either reconsider, or go to New Zealand or Sweden, both nice places as well.

As for Canada, where did you go? North Vancouver is the coolest place ever. You can do pretty much whatever you want here as long as you don't hurt anyone or whatever... just basic rules. More like guidelines--our laws are pretty passive. Especially the laws prohibiting the smoking of marijuana are pretty lax. If the cops find you they basically just take it away, no charges. At least those have been my experiences. I don't know what that other guy was talking about when he said there's no freedom of speech here. Whateva, whateva, I do what I want! :D

The nature here is amazing, and we get less rain than Seattle. We can have a Totse meet! :) So yeah, consider moving here. If you still haven't made up your mind.

Whatever you choose, good luck and I hope you like where you end up!

i'm not going to scream retarded things, but kid read up. You don't have half the privacy rights most of europe has. I can drink at 16, smoke weed at 18, get my 16 year old gf an abortion and they won't even tell her parents. And if the cops ask me for me identity card , WHY? is actually a valid question.

You people are so supressed you even swallow the lie that your free

I think if it comes to 1984, china and america come the closest....

I have been smoking weed and drinking since 15, and I live in America...what's the big deal?

While I certainly agree with your sentiments, I think you will be hard pressed to find a country with more freedoms than america. For all its shortcomings, its still the best out there. Plus its easier to fight the monster when you're on the inside. http://www.totse.com/bbs/wink.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/wink.gif)
