That would be a cb. Not a scanner at all, unless your police happens to operate on cb, which I seriously doubt.

You can find frequencies at http://www.radioreference.com

Most cops don't even know their own freqs.

No. You can only listen to CB frequencies with a CB radio. For a frequency in the 150's, you need either a regular scanner, a 2 meter ham rig, or an actual police/fire/ems VHF radio.

And for what you're wanting to do, you really won't get much useful info on a CB. Plus, it's not like the shipping areas aren't guarded.

Ya, thats a CB.

The old school version of IMing, texting, chatting, and cell phones. I had one back in 1980, along with all my friends. they were the hip cool thing. I'm so pathetic.

If you was the dukes of hazzard, that thing would work, however about the only good thing that is for is mounting in your car, to get around traffic, find cops by communication, and for the emergency chanel.

chanel 9 in california is the emergincy chanel

truckers genneraly use chanel 19. I sometimes talk to the truckers to find out where the cops are.

Yeah...Use it to wind truckers up and shit.

Could be fun...You ever see that movie...Erm...With the guys...And the girl...And the freak trucker trying to kill them for messing with him? I forget the name.

Police/Highway Patrol = APCO-25 Trunking VHF(usually)
Podunk Police = VHF, sometimes w/ CG Tone
Truckers/Schools/Home Depot/Etc = CB Radio

Usually police operate around the 155Mhz range. CB radios transmit around 27Mhz.

So your radio isn't totally useless. You can use it to sabotage the home depot, or shoot the shit with truckers(they usually report the position of cops if you're paying attention).

It depends on what you want to do.
155.13000 type:BM ch:2 Police FM

You can try switching your CB to channel 2, but I doubt you will get anything. That doesn't look like they're using a trunking system, so any VHF radio that can tune in to 155.13Mhz should do it. You should be able to get a decent handheld one that can transmit and receive for under $50 on ebay. BM means they are using it at the station, as well as in their cruisers.

From what I've seen, most businesses and schools typically use MURS (Multi-Use Radio Service), an unlicensed commercial band in VHF, or other VHF commercial bands that require licensing. The MURS freqs were popularized by Motorola as the "dot frequencies" because Moto indicated the frequency of a particular radio by using a colored dot sticker.

MURS or VHF licensed commercial typically what you'll find in use for business handheld radios and the headsets used in fast food drive-thrus.

The MURS frequencies are as follows: 151.82MHz, 151.88MHz, 151.94MHz, 154.57MHz, 154.6MHz.

Most of the other licensed commercial VHF frequencies are in that 150-160MHz range. If you do a bit of scanning while in parking lots, you can discover quite a few businesses' operating frequencies.
