View Full Version : What is my religion?

Quick, I need to know this by tomorrow morning so I can print them on my military dog tags and piss off my chain of command!

But seriously, my beliefs are either atheist, none, or agnostic. But is "none" the same as "atheist"?

I don't really believe in God, but I'm not positive he doesn't exist. Is this a form of agnosticism or atheism?

Is there a difference between having no religion and not being spiritual and being an atheist?

-edit-

My question is, which one should I put?

Atheist, agnostic, or none?

atheist means you dont believe in god. Agnostic means us as humans cant know for shur either way. Irreleventist is something else i heard the other day, meaning god is irrelivent to our lives so you dont give a shit but nobody would know what you mean if you say that.

I know this. This is why agnosticism is ambiguous, because I can believe both of the above statements.

Ya, alot of people classify themselves as atheist/agnostics, since you want it on your military dog tags go with atheist, it has a better shock value.

Plus if your agnostic your stuck in saying we cant know. But if your atheist you can say i dont believe because we cant know. Its fucked up, just go with atheist.

If they try to give me shit and say "atheist" isn't a religion, I'm going to put Sunni Muslim or satanist. They won't even know though since I'll make it myself.

Any other opinions on my preference?

Agnostic Atheist. It's a perfectly valid position.

Edit: but since you can't do that it seems, personally I'd go with atheist, even though you technically fall under both.

I might be able to fit "Agnostic Theist" or "Agnostic Atheist" onto the tags, but I'm not sure if there's enough room.

OK, I just got back from some guy making 5 copies of my dog tag, which he managed to fuck up 3 times because "Agnostic Theist" was too long to fit on the line properly. The other 2 times he put "Christian" on there even though I specifically told him not to.

just say your diest.

it means you believe something created the universe and all of this, but he just left once he did, benjamin franklin was a diest.

his example of this was basically: some one created a very sufisticated watch and then just left it there to run until the battery runs out.

I'm pretty sure you're thinking of an apatheist, they believe that the question of god's existence is irrelevant.

My dog tags now reads "Agnostic Theist" for religion. I made them myself. I had to do a little craft work since the dog tag usually only fits 14 characters.

I would put "none", since even if someone could prove their God or religion to me even beyond a shadow of a doubt, that does not mean that I would necessarily submit myself to it.
