View Full Version : when the mystical becomes commonplace

Shanti is the Hindu word for Peace. Say it once and that is all it is, but said three times and it becomes a mantra — a mystic incantation. A simple example of how easily the mystical becomes commonplace or vice versa.

There is a commercial out right now for a yogurt brand where two women are lounging together, trying to articulate the wonderful flavors of their yogurt. One of them comments, "It's like zen wrapped in karma, dipped in chocolate." At first, I thought I heard it wrong. I thought, maybe she is saying, "caramel," but pronouncing it carmel. Maybe she didn't say Zen, but I couldn't come up with an alternative. But, no. They're saying that their yogurt tastes like the Japanese branch of Mayhayana of Buddhism, wrapped in the cycle of cause and effect. What is the taste of one hand clapping?

I'd be disturbed if someone commented that her cup of yogurt tasted like the resurrection wrapped in the holy trinity, too. But, then, that wouldn't happen.

Wow, don't all reply at the same time.

Your thread will get more replies if you actually include a point of discussion.

What you've just done is whine about an advert that uses inappropriate terminology.

It's a fucking yoghurt, your average stay at home vapid waste of space mother isn't going to give a shit about that religious stuff. The chocolate bit at the end is all they care about.

But why is it okay to use one religion to make a pointless ad, but not another?

Because there aren't many followers of Zen Buddhism in the western countries in which these adverts would be shown.

And the ones who are, are too highly evolved to make a fuss about nonsense like that.

Getting back to the topic as stated, I have been a teacher and practitioner of metaphysics in general and shamanism in particular for almost twenty years.

Many of the experiences that I have related here over the years have been met with scepticism because they seemed to the reader to be outre or fantastic.

To me, this is just matter-of fact stuff. For me, for instance, doing an entity release (commonly known as an exorcism) is compareble to a plumber unclogging a pipe.

Just a part of the day's work.

I agree I'm suddenly the seed of satan if I insult christianity in even the littlest way but, everyday some age old culture/religion is disgraced yet it doesn't carry such a stigma. I'm also angry when people talk about buddhism and say "I'd hate worshipping a 500 lbs God." Such ignorance needs to be abolished.

Don't worry about it. If you've ever watched a Japanese production like Neon Genesis Evangelion or seen a variety of Engrish T-shirts, Christianity or Judaism can become pretty cool-looking nonsense too!

Since people don't have a great understanding in the west of eastern traditions ideas like zen and enlightenment and bliss will easily sell a product if you connect it with heavenly feelings esspecialy if it's a food product. Good marketing in my opinion.
