I was watching this show on the history channel about the evolution of the devil and our perception of him throughout the ages and different cultures.

Originally, he was depicted as an angel, human features with wings.

Later, for some time he was actually typically portrayed as a black demon.

Then after that, he was made blue, the idea being that hell wasn't actually hot, but incredibly cold. Reason being, it was as far away from god's love as you can be, and... love is warm and such.

Then for a period of time, as he became red, he was depicted with stereotypically jewish features.

Pretty interesting show actually.

then Blizzard came out with "Diablo"... and it went downhill from there.

I love Neil Gaiman's representation of Lucifer, he's badass.
