View Full Version : Do guardian angels exist?

I think they do because I have come close to death quite a few times and I am obviously still around....Most recently,a speeding suv ran a light which had been red for four or five seconds but for some reason I just sat at the light...How many people survive a T-bone collision? I understand how lame this may sound to the totsean population but this is only a minor instance in my life..

Should I mention the time in Nam when I was the only marine left on the point of the perimeter...Yeah,the cong were laying down mortars inches from my foxhole and I was praying to the lord not to take my eighteen year old life...I've always wondered why a platoon of cong did not overrun my position..Maybe it was because a lone Marine with a M-60 machine gun had made his peace with God..

How about the time some acme faced punks cut me off on a side road and stuck a gun in my face? I did what any soldier would do and tried to take the gun away so I could kill the bastard...Unfortunately for me his partner pulled out a gun and shot me point blank in the chest..So I calmly walked down to a house, all the time expecting to be shot in the back, and laid on their front porch with my hand over the gunshot wound....I looked up at the night sky and waited for the Lord to take me but it didn't happen..I spent two weeks in the hospital..The doctors could not explain how someone could sustain a gunshot to the heart and the bullet travelled across the chest cavity and through the lung..

I do have a lot of reasons why I think we have guarian angels but I think I've said enough..I got a feeling that when you people get older you will see how God does exist....

Point by point analysis is fun

What makes you think that guardian angels have anything to do with it? In my opinion the Flying Spaghetti Monster has just touched you with his noodle appendage. quote:Most recently,a speeding suv ran a light which had been red for four or five seconds but for some reason I just sat at the light...How many people survive a T-bone collision? I am glad you are OK, but still this doesn't prove anything. Some get in lucky situations, some get in very unlucky ones. For example, recently a old woman who survived nazi concentration camps was killed by a banana falling on her leg http://www.estatevaults.com/lm/archives/002298.html

Or maybe it's because the commanders of the cong didn't want to attack that position? All you proved so far is that you didn't die. Well so far neither did I. As a matter of fact, the fact that I never even got CLOSE to dying would prove guardian angels even better.

Forgive me but I am a bit skeptical about that. Of course you can't provide evidence, but I will take your word for it. In any case the plural of anecdote is not evidence.

All you showed so far is the fact that you didn't die in dangerous situations. That in no way proves anything other the fact that...you didn't die in dangerous situations. Now if the surgeons saw a bright shining light touch you before you magically healed or your car not starting up then you would have a stronger case. Even if you don't believe in coincidences why do you believe it is a Christian angel? For all I know you've been touched with FSM's noodle appendage.

Why should I believe that any supernatural entity gives a damn about me or anyone? Plenty of natural entities don't even give a damn about me. I have had a couple of "near tragedies" or "near death experiences" but I don't necessarily believe that it was because of some super natural force protecting me, I think it was that I had an unfortunate experience (because nothing is protecting me).

I lost the main brakes to my car once and narrowly avoided a horrible accident in a main intersection. I have almost tumbled over the side of a road while driving in a snow storm but my car just managed to stop before the edge. I was almost impaled through the neck once, but I escaped with a scar just above a main vein... is it because some angel saved my life so that I can cure AIDS or do something spectacular? It seems unlikely, and I am sure that millions of other people have had or will have some near death experience once in their lives.

At least you're actually quoting sources now, lol.

Why would you analyse this?

He already knows your answer.

All he is saying is that this is part of why he believes(in whatever he believes).

Maybe the angel was shaking his head when he went for the gun http://www.totse.com/bbs/wink.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/wink.gif)

Your lack of self-esteem is unfortunate, verging on pathetic, but understandable.

There are so darn many of us cluttering up this lovely little planet that it is tempting to write us off. Then again, from my window, I can see billions, nay, trillions of snowflakes. Each one is unique, and beautiful, and a miracle in itself.

I contend that we are the most remarkable, astounding, totally awesome creation in the known universe. Each of us consists of around 100 trillion cells--they are in constant communication, they go about their jobs efficiently without our having to give the matter a second of thought--is this not amazing?

Science has discovered that our brain cells communicate with each other through the secretion of neuropeptides. More recently, it has been discovered that nearly every cell in our body is capable of creating neuropeptides--in a sense, our entire body is one big brain.

Even a single white blood cell, when encountering an unknown particle int he bloodstream, can instantly make a conscious and intelligent judgement and decide whether that particle is friend or foe, and act accordingly.

It has been obsrved many times that God is love--and I contend that God created us for the express purpose of having something to love. Dunno about you, but I think I'M worth it.

Tell that to the millions of children starving to death in Ethiopia (who pray every night to god) that god=love. See what they think about god's love.

To ArmsMerchant, I hope you didn't just call a white blood cell a selfconcious being. It's not making an intelligent decision moron, it's responding to chemical stimuli. The body isn't a brain, my arm does in no way contribute to my intelligence. Please, I learned that much in highschool biology. As for your claim that all cells can send neuropeptides, a source would be nice. And mustacherider, just cause the bible says so doesn't by any streach of logic make it so.

Oh well apparently I came off wrong. I certainly have self-respect and a confidence in myself, although I will admit that sometimes it can change in an almost bipolar fashion.

Anyway, I am aware of some of these scientific discoveries and I must say that life- and not to mention the whole universe- can be quite amazing. I am not sure exactly what "God" is, although I do not believe that God is a bearded humanoid waiting to reward or punish us, as some may still believe. I have considered this idea that God is love(probably from listening to the Beatles), but there are many negative things in the universe, so it is an idea that may take me a while to fully wrap my ahead around.

Either way, I do not believe that this constitutes any basis for the existence of "guardian angels". I can not disprove them, but I also cannot prove them-- perhaps science has made my heart a bit too cold.

And I am glad that you're enjoying the snow where you are- apparently Alaska. As for myself, I am currently enjoying the beginning of spring as the snow melts away, but then again this is New England... anything can happen.

Anyway, whether supernatural beings exist or not, it is certainly an interesting world.
