View Full Version : There's a perfectly reasonable explanation to this whole "god" thing

There is a God. Now if I just added a few more paragraphs from that statement, you'd wish to argue with it, wasting your time by writing boring and lengthy replies on why he doesn't exist. And God thinks to himself: "perfect".
This whole board is evidence. It's just what he wants. Just how he made it. Thing is, God really enjoys this. He smiles as everyone flames the conservative Christian, calling him an idiot who lacks intelligence and understanding of the universe, and therefore tries to explain it with Jewish folklore, denying all the evidence science has shown us, insisting on remaining deaf, dumb and blind. Some turbanheads yells "allah ackbar" before blowing themselves to smithereens, hoping to get as many people with them as possible, thinking that this choice was a righteous one and that they'll be honored as martyrs, and rewarded for their selfless efforts in paradise. God gets a boner as he sees this. A couple of planes crash into two towers, and decent amounts of pulses fades away, some believing salvation has come, and a whole nation is filled with fear and anger for years, allowing plenty of bullets to be fired for another decade, and at this point, God has one of the best orgasms since the Cold War.
Why hasn't God allowed us to know the truth about his existence? It's simple: Because he enjoys it this way. He could just come down and explain everything, but that would be no fun. He'll watch us struggle finding the answer to this all, and then struggle proving it to others, be it trough reasonable argument or through genocide, all for his sick pleasure.
Should you believe the Bible, the Qur'an or perhaps the Pali Canon? I'd say they can be trusted as much as tabloids, the texts are written to create reaction, whether it's the absolute truth or not is irrelevant.
Should you pray to God? Go ahead if you want to, but don't expect to be taken seriously.
Should your morals reflect on what God thinks is right? Heh, no, God has some of the most disgusting morals I've ever seen.
What is my point anyway? It's simple:
God is a troll. Are you a bad enough dude to feed the troll?

No, you're the troll, the troll with insubstantial evidence.

Like I said, the evidence is right here. You argue against me, and why wouldn't it make sense that this happens because God wants it to happen? Everything goes according to plan for him.
this thread actually made me laugh out loud.
People often offer evidence for or against the idea that God is a sadist -- here, he likes to mess with people's minds, too. I'm not sure if it really counts as trolling since it's related to other debates about God...
I hadn't come across this one before, but it's funny, and about as sound as a lot of the other stuff that gets thrown around.

If we can apply Occam's Razor, we can simply state that it is two dividing groups arguing for or against a belief. You added something to it that there is no evidence for: that a God is forcing us to do it for his own amusement.

First I want you to understand that he's not forcing us, he has simply through a series of well planned events produced the reaction for his own amusement, we are free to do as we will, yet we just continue to do exactly what he wants us to. Second, I see the fact that there's no evidence against it as evidence for it. In fact, the lack of evidence serves as more evidence, since if God allowed us any evidence of his existence, then his fun would end, and why the hell would he do that?

No, it makes me lose all my faith in humanity's worth and contemplate the pointlessness of my own existence.
I could be out achieving something but instead I'm sitting here debating whether or not god exists with bigots and twelve year-olds and that fact really depresses me.
That and the fact that tomorrow someone is probably going to say something along the lines of "God exists because I'm not a monkey" someone else is going to reply "You are a fucking retard, do you even know who Darwin was? Blah blah blah..." Then both sides will bicker like pathetic little children and this whole depressing cycle will continue for another day and nothing will be achieved again.
That and the fact that this message will be lost in a sea of the exact same sort of crap as itself like every other one on this site.
I need a beer.

You're being speculative and there's no way to prove what you're saying either way, so it's non-falsifiable and therefore pointless to argue.

That's sort of like saying "When a dumb person asks you a question, don't give them the answer. Help them to try and reach the answer on their own." Only problem is, is that it's a dumb person and can't get it on their own.

If that's what you choose to believe, then go ahead, there's really no point in trying to prove something to someone who claims a theory to be irrelevant to their own existence before it's proven otherwise. Just don't use your own philosophy to brand other theories as stupid.

He has the word "troll" in his name and his argument is non-falsifiable and should therefore be passed over in silence, imo, so it wasn't ad-hom. And I could care less what Pseudo in a Box thinks.

It is irrelevant because it can't be proven either way, i.e. is non-falsifiable, and therefore does nothing to improve my life nor add to my knowledge in a useful manner.

Who are the one to say it doesn't improve your life or give you useful knowledge? You are the one who made that judgment, and therefore I'm sure it counts for you, but it doesn't count for me. So it's pretty much useless to try to make you get into it if you don't change that, but who says no one else can? Reminder: I never said that anyone who don't believe this are going to hell, believe whatever you want and see if I care, it's a waste of time to argue against an individual's beliefs. There's a huge difference between accepting that there could be truth to a theory and starting to believe it and dedicate your life to it. I only expect the former from you, I don't care about the latter and there's no use in bringing it up.

Fine, it may improve your life, but don't get spreading it around as if it is evidence when it's not (if something is non-falsifiable, it can't be evidence), troll.
PS, it's not a theory, it's a hypothesis, and a bloody bad one at that.

No, it's not. Non-falsifiable = not provable, not provable = pointless, considering you were trying to use it to prove God exists.

It's pointless to use to try and prove God exists since it is non-falsifiable. That may be an opinion, but it's also a matter of fact. http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif)

There's no evidence proving the existence of God and no evidence disproving it, this is correct and I agree that it is pointless to argue with it. From this you can choose to pick the argument that there's no evidence for his existence and say that therefore you don't believe in him. Or you could pick the argument that there's no evidence against his existence and say that you therefore believe that he does exist, and that isn't pointless. Both are legit ways to see it. That's all I'm trying to say. Really. This is getting silly.

Sounds like you are just trying to make it a tautological truth, ie making a circular argument with no real evidence, just pure postulation.
