Good work though. It does look a lot like the old layout.

Jeff, I must say you did a fine job making it look the old UBB version. It's going to be a little difficult getting use to the reply/new topic fields and other things but all in all, great job.
For those that want to go back to UBB, FUCK OFF! Change is good, and we needed it :D

I actually think they are harder to read now. When I am posting in a thread, I rather liked the ability to look to a special column on the left for the username.
I guess you can't make everyone happy all of the time.
In short, it still looks a hell of a lot better than it did, Jeff, and we'll get used to the new interface.

i like the merge thread as well thats a handy function but i must agree new is well hard to accept scary part was i was reading the FAQ about the switch and went to my thread and was replying then boom it's all like click here

Not quite 100% yet, but it should be ready by Thursday at the latest.
Just be careful with the full loads.
-Dust
Ed: A few things:
-The "join date" might have to go, just a way of comparing E-penis size.
-"Reason for Editing" stuff. Not sure how that's going to work yet.
-Names are too big, the old system was MUCH better.
-"Add to user's reputation" is going to get nasty when all the kids in Spurious and Half Baked get to it. Guaruntee you'll see "add to my reputation" threads every day.
-Private message stuff is a good idea, but get ready for hell...
-The links at the top of the page are excellent though, very helpful.
Otherwise, some good, some bad, mostly meh. I'll get used to it.

I honestly don't like it. 1. I cannot believe you allowed private messages, 2. the username display, edit and quote buttons are way too big, 3. having to toggle to see older posts is really annoying, 4. I can't believe you allowed avatars in profile section, 5. it's too bloated, the old forum was minimalist (I like minimalist), 6. I preferred simply having to log in each time I made a post, and, well... give me time and I probably wont care either way.
EDIT - I really don't like being listed as "online" at the bottom of the page either. Is there any way to remain hidden?
I would assume that people have lower post counts as Jeff is still converting over all the older posts, in which case they will rise to your previous level once that's all taken care of.
(Hey, this is exactly as I had predicted in that thread I made in SG that was more than likely locked within a few minutes)

Jeff, is there any chance of having the threads displayed by last posted in to oldest posted in by default? The alphabetical order thing is really annoying. The closest we have is "last post time" but that shows them from oldest to newest, so I have to scroll down to get to the threads with the newest posts.
EDIT - OK, so I've found all I have to do is set it to "last post time", "descending", but it is tiring having to set that each time I click on a forum. How can I have it like that all the time? I looked in my edit options section, but there was no option to do this.

Awesome, vBulletin for the win. However, being a webmaster of several forums myself, I suggest changing user details to the left.

Every thread that begins with a W or Y is at the top of the page. This fucking sucks.
EDIT:
Also, I'm getting messages about the server being too busy, and telling me to try back later. Is vBulletin too much for that ancient piece of hardware to handle?

... so far, so good.
Thank your for taking the time and spending the money to set up vbulliten. Through the years Totse has bee very inspiring, and I have learned much. Vbulliten is awesome and the layout is ultra fab. It is very organized. It's working great and it's much easy to browse through old files with the vbulliten search functions. Totse has a 21st century makeover. Yippy Hooray!

Jeff, the display options are sort "descending" and "last order" by default now, which is excellent, but can you also make them "last post time" instead of "thread title"? It's really annoying when they're in alphabetical order, especially when there's posts from a month ago, instead of by which thread has last been posted in.

Jeff, I'm not reading thru 14 pages of people sucking your nuts to find out if I'm the only one on totse that feels this way, but please, for the love of all things holy and unholy, change it back. One of my favorite things about totse was that it was basically the old school google of Message boards, stripped down to the bare essentials, not the fruit booty fisher-price looking bullshit. To paraphrase Dire Straits, I want my, I want my, I want my totse back.

OMGNOROUNDEDCORNERS! How can you possibly support trying to upgrade the forum and at the same time ruin the lovely rounded corners at the top of the content column!?
And something that actually DOES make a difference to the site: the forum list is horribly cluttered, mainly because the moderator column is taking three times the space it needs to. MomentaryLapseOfReason is the sole cause of this. :p However setting a percent width to the forum name/description column would be workable I believe.

Where are our archives?!
robinhoody
2007-04-07, 03:55
Where are our archives?!Well, currently, they're in their original forums.
You do realize that every post is on the forums, right?
The threads may not be organized in an archive (yet), but they're still around...
Recently I brought up the question of Avatars (over in BLTC in one of the stickies). Now I know some people here will be opposed to them, but think about all the ones who would love them. There are alot of characters here on Totse, and having an avatar would be a nice way of showing who you are.
But not everyone should get one right off the bat.
You should have to earn it in some way. Maybe by donating a buck or two to Totse for better servers/parts or matainance. Or maybe by using some sort of point system where users give you "karma" points for good replies and "negative" points for shit posts. I mean, I don't know, it's just a thought, not that it's really necessary. Here is my original post from BLTC, which was suggested that I post here:
While you guys sit down at the virtual table for your pow-wow, how about discussing avatars? I remember some discussion when we had the old BBS that when totse switched to VB, people would be allowed avatars if they donated a buck or something for better servers or matainance or some shit like that. If not, how about letting people have them only if they earn it in some way? Not by number of posts though, since most kidiots will just flood totse with shit replies for #'s.
Not really necessary but just a thought.
Peace.
EDIT: Okay, even before you had a chance to reply, I feel that Avatars might be a bit of a stretch here at Totse, so after you say "no avatars", how about signatures? I noticed the Mods have them. How about the same deal, except for sigs?
Prometheus
2007-04-07, 08:40
If sigs were to be made available to the general public, there would defiantly have to be a size limit. Back in the day (man, I feel old) we had sigs available. Lots of people had long ones, and lots had banner sized links in there. Very distracting.
I have no opinion on avatars. I personally like them, but I don't know how totse would react to them. I'll bet we'd see a lot of nasty stuff.
Originally posted by Prometheus:

See, thats the thing. After a while of thinking about it, I can see every other person having Gotse or some other nasty shit as their avatar.
Maybe some rules like "no porn in avatars".
I like avatars too, but sadly, the more I think about it, I don't see it happening.
Signatures I see as something that can definately be implemented, especially if it generates $$ with the "donate a dollar" thing.
Peace.

Here is something I would like to see implemented, if it is at all possible.
I like how posts that are new since your last visit in a thread have a little gold icon in the upper left. I would like it more if you could navigate multiple pages of the same thread without those getting reset in the process.

I like the old format better. One of the reasons I came to totse, very simplistic.
Can we up the post limit before changing to a new page?
Started a page two after 10 posts is a little short, don't you think?
At least bring it back to 25 posts like the older days or 50 posts in the past year or so.
You can change it yourself in the User CP at the top of you browser.
Thanks man.

All in all, it looks cool.

Also. What is with the reputation thing? Mousing over while it's red tells you that people don't like the poster, but over green (I'll assume that's good) you get something about no information. Feature or bug?

If someone likes your post, they can click the scale and give you a positive point.
If they don't like your post, they give you a negative point.
The points add up to give you a "reputation", or an indicator of average quality/likability.

Depends on the board. Some show who left the rep points, others, like Totse, are supposed to be anonymous, unless the rater decides to leave their name in the comment form.
You can see your reputation points, the comments left, and what post you got them from, though, on the main page of your User CP.
