How religion corrupts the minds of children? They are in a church you dumbass! what, you want them to preach evolution? What a fucking idiot!
If evolution were so great then i'd think you'd have a little more followers than 2.6% of the worlds population agreeing with you! I'm not saying thata proof but he makes it sound as if religion is small when really religion consumes more than 95% of the world when his beliefs have the same amount of followers as a few big-sized cults!

Religion absolutely corrupts the minds of innocent children. That it happens in churches does not excuse it.
Young children are impressionable, and will believe whatever is taught to them as truth. The church feeding them false information (either out of ignorance or intent) definitely corrupts their minds. Teaching them that fairy tales are true seriously dampens their critical thinking abilities.
Your ignorance is strong evidence of the accuracy of my arguments.
Are you seriously ignorant enough to believe that only 2.6% of the world accepts that evolution is real? You are seriously delusional.

This perfectly describes evolutionary indoctrination as well as you can plainly tell this one is still corrupted.
BTW although i dont think what these people were doing was exactly right(mostly because there are much better arguments you can teach) but you have to remember these are kids and this is propaganda(by propaganda i mean the "documentary" you can tell by who is holding the camera it isnt hard to guess her voice but i cant recall her name) so they will teach them things in a kid friendly enviornment. I alos believe that Australian accent guy looked really wierd and should be removed from the presence of children.

No one gathers young children together and force-feeds/indoctrinates them with the theory of evolution. Evolution is not even presented to children in any real context until they study biology.
Your argument fails miserably.

Yes, religion relies upon presenting it's doctrine to the young of its followers. I don't think there's many religions out there which tell their followers to instruct their children that the belief which they have based their lives around is probably wrong, and there are much better ways to think. The way in which children are conditioned at young ages (even with "good intent) is therefore a problem, as as has been said, harms that child's ability to think rationally and clearly later in life.
Youse two are merely evidence of this, using straw-man arguments against evolution (which wasn't even being discussed here) in order to prove that it's acceptable to bullshit to children, which in some cases... has long-lasting damage. An example from my own life here; my mother has told me the story of when she was given nitrous oxide at the dentists when she was a young child she went to hell. There was no doubt in her mind that she was there, in this aweful place, presumably for eternity. Why might she think this, I hear you ask? Well, she'd been educated at a nun's convent for a few years, and these women spent all day drilling such images into the minds of these impressionable young girls.
My mother isn't haunted by such images now (she's more Buddhist really now) but she was certainly indoctrinated. Another example is the recent Louis Theroux program where he goes to speak to the "God hates fags" church, who are of course - almost exclusively made up of one extended family - because they brainwash the children.
I believe it's inherently wrong to drum one message into a child's skull, and not leave them any scope to think themselves. The petty evolution vs creationism debate is evidence of this; fundamentalist Christianity's only response to theory of evolution is to start indoctrinating with ludicrous bullshit like how they can prove the world is less than 10,000 years old. This is a (minor) part of the Christian religion, and despite not being in the Bible, if it becomes a standard belief then worshippers and children alike WILL be indoctrinated by such crap.
Religion is about faith - so don't drum your crap into your kids skulls, present them with your (and other's) beliefs and let them find "the truth" by themselves. They'll be much happier people, and much more loyal to their religion, in the end.
Is it a coincidence that the part of the world (Western Europe) where we have so rigidly drummed in images of violence in the afterlife, and forced "faith" upon our Children has also been the place of some of the worse violence known to man, resulting in the deaths and suffering of millions upon millions of people. I don't believe so...

The only dinosaur books I *ever* read were privately bought by my family. I was never taught evolution from 1st grade through 12th...and I'm less than 110 miles out from Chicago.
The closest we ever came to being taught evolution was spontaneous mutations of RNA and DNA.
Evolution's barely even mentioned in public schools in Illinois...I heard the pledge of allegiance every fucking day until 7th grade. I've heard a teacher mention evolutionary theory TWICE my entire schooling.
That's real brainwashing...

Presenting children with factual information is not feeding them bullshit. Emperical evidence proves that dinosaurs existed millions of years before man.
Teaching them that men rode on the backe of dinosaurs and that they all were vegetarians is feeding them bullshit, in tremendous quantities.

But more to the point. We shouldn't just be blatently bashing people opinions on whether or not we think they're stupid. I made that same mistake. No one's opinion here is any better than any one elses. Unless it's Masta Thief or Sammy249, then their arguements aren't opinions, they're misgiven facts.
Trying to claim that dinosaurs existed with man is ok, but the lack of actual evidence that you give (which so far has been along the lines of "god made it that way" and "athiests and other things only make up 16% of the population so therefor you're wrong") makes you sound wrong, and makes you not only disprove yourself, but help prove someone else's idea.
Stop with the bullshit posting you two, or at least try to gather information other than the same damn statistics you always pull out of your assholes, or claiming that it's ok because god did it and you're a christian. I fucking hate both of you.

Personally I'm not even going to touch on your first point based off two simple points. Firstly you seem awfully deluded in thinking that for some reason this religion of yours teachers these wonderful moral values that would not be learned otherwise. Secondly, you seem oddly unaware of the many atrocities ordered and/or committed by god. I see no reason to stretch this point beyond that as any half educated person with some knowledge of the bible would more likely then not be able to cite many examples. However that is not the point I wish to argue as I have already stated.
Now for the point I am after here, you perplex me by stating that “atheism teaches them nothing” and that they would be “unable to get along with society”. What precisely is it that gives you this exceptionally misguided idea? It would seem as though someone who only believed that there was only one life, the here and now, would place a much greater value on it. For what reason would an atheist want to spend part of their life behind bars, a miserable fool, or as some kind of degenerate from society. By you so much as implying that for some reason an atheist in unable to function within society is absurd, making uneducated generalizations will not gain you any kind of ground on your already flawed arguments. Frankly it would seem to me that you simply haven’t opened your eyes to the real world about you and how atheist generally are the most understanding and intelligent people. Go figure what happens when you live a life that is not a lie founded upon mythology.
As for this blind assumption that the west was formed on Christian belief you better brush up on your history and the knowledge of your very own bill of rights. I won’t even bother wasting my time on telling you where you have mistaken the facts on the matter, but if I am not mistaken there is possibly a chicken scratch about some kind of separation between church and state.
It would not take a genius to figure out that you are clearly misguided and undereducated of other belief systems. Do you have a fear of your own dogma and life you have based it around being taken away from you? Although I guess that thought might upset you after all we couldn’t have developed from monkeys now could we? Everyone knows monkeys don’t live for millions of years.
You know I couldn’t even care to elaborate on any of this, I know it won’t make shit all difference, you will forever (unfortunately) be trapped in this belief that your mommy and daddy instilled in you. Did the minister ever touch you? Will he tell Jesus on you if you tell anybody? I can only hope the worms enjoy your corpse, after all earth to earth right?

You teach children that faith(belief without evidence. or even worse, belief in spite of contradicting evidence) is a virtue. You seriously retard a childs critical thinking abilities by teaching them to accept without question, the validity of what they are told.
You cannot claim that morals come from your religion. You do not follow the moral teachings that your book of tales promotes. If you followed the morals in the bible you would have to stone to death your children for disobedience, and put to death anyone who does work of any kind on the sabbath.
Morality does not stem from religion.
On the other hand athiesm teaches them nothing, in fact it leaves them not knowing anything, unable to get along with society! Christian Judeuo values is what the west has been founded upon, so even if you believe morals is wrong your living in a world where morals forms it!!!
Atheism does not attempt to teach anyone anything. Atheism is simply the lack of belief in god/gods.
You are sadly mistaken if you believe that the west was founded on christian/judeuo values. Perhaps you should study American history .
Why attack us? it serves no purpose, you attack people of peace and your alternative is immorality whichs consists of sex addiction, drug abuse, and the horrible treatments of others. Its basicaly no different than Satanism with out the pretend mochery and the witchcraft!
Very few atheists attack religion (although there do exist a few militant atheists). We are simply getting fed up with the way the religious fundies are destroying the chances of the future prosperity of this country. The total rejection of logic and reason by the religious majority threatens to doom us all to relive the dark ages. We attach out of self defense.

The only reason your "half educated person with some knowledge of the bible" can come up with examples is because he is just what you said half educated and lacking any REAL knowledge of the Bible, these people ignore context and also fail to take in account other versus that elaborate more on the subjects.

In what way does my user name diminish my argument? You need to try harder. When you cannot form a coherent argument all you have left in your arsenal are personal attacks.
Logic and reason must be abandoned in order to believe in an invisible, omniscient, omnibenevolent, and omnipotent being, who cannot be observed in any physical way and who's very existance must be accepted by faith alone.

1. something that actually exists; reality; truth: Your fears have no basis in fact.

Ok , you got me. I admit that there were no faeries involved. The more accurate term would be "mythology".
A six day creation? A world wide flood? Parting the red sea? Rivers turned to blood? Any sane individual understands that these are the stuff of mythology.
"Logic and reason must be abandoned in order to believe in an omniscient, omnibenevolent, and omnipotent being."
Seriously stop posting complete nonsense.
Refute the claim. Demonstrate how it is logical to believe in such a being, or kindly remain silent.
"I do not base my opinions on assumptions. I base them on personal experience and observation. I have been exposed to many variations of the Christian religion for more years than you have probably been alive. I am far from being ignorant of the christian religion, or of it's teachings."
Part one: I base my opinions on personal experience as well.Part two: I am not going to argue about you encounters with other christians but you fail to take into account we are not just talking about the "christian religeon"
Sorry , but we are talking about the christian religion. I guess you didn't watch the video that the OP linked to at the beginning of this thread.
You have two research papers on your desk. They are conflicting with each other. One of them cites sources, provides facts, evidence and data. The other one is based on a "what if" scenario, which technically could be possible, but is in conflict with all the evidence presented in paper#1. You have to make a decision to publish one of them. So tell me, Sammy, which one would YOU chose?

"Since you are obviously an expert on the subject, pray tell where exactly it is written in the bible that you should not believe in god unless you are presented with evidence of his existance?"
Paul tells people to go and study everything then come back and make a decision about God(if im not mistaken). This also answers a later question so dont get mad when i skip it i am in a little hurry and i cant exactly pull out passeges from my ass you are just gunna have to trust thats what it say.
"you weren't implying that this country was founded on christian morals?"
No i was just trying to be cute when i said that my point was it was not founded on doctrines that many atheists hold true to.
"Study American history."
I want you opinions on why they took great pains so you tell me the history.
"Any sane individual understands that these are the stuff of mythology."
Have you ever considered that these "mythologys" copied from the torah(ya im pretty sure it wasnt completed but you know what i mean) the only reason you say they copied from that is because no one (that ive heard of i was going to make a thread asking someone to post a link to where they still practice the worshipof gods like zeus) practices those kinds of religeon anymore and if you say they copied from it no one will switch to that religeon.(for lack of better words im in a hurry)
"Demonstrate how it is logical to believe in such a being, or kindly remain silent."
Demonstrate how it is illogical please.
"Sorry , but we are talking about the christian religion. I guess you didn't watch the video that the OP linked to at the beginning of this thread."
The "christian religeon" can sometimes be thought of as most New Testament and some Old Testemant (Jewish religeon)
To the other people religeon dosnt have to be based on facts it is FAITH how many times do people have to tell you.

No, I have no reason to trust what you say. Provide the scripture.

No i was just trying to be cute when i said that my point was it was not founded on doctrines that many atheists hold true to.
If that was your intention, you failed miserably.
"Study American history."

One of the main reasons the founding fathers came to this country was to be able to worship/not worship as they choose. I suppose you have never heard of the 1st ammendment? Why , do you suppose, it was written?
I say again: Study American history.

I never said that christianity borrowed from other religions, although it is obviously the case.
I simply pointed out that the bible stories are the stuff of myth, as are the stories of zeus, apollo, etc.
"Demonstrate how it is logical to believe in such a being, or kindly remain silent."
Demonstrate how it is illogical please.
Do you believe in the flying spaghetti monster? The celestial teapot?Of course you do not. Why do you not believe in either of them? Because you understand that it is illogical to believe in them as their existance cannot be proven in any way.
The same goes for god/gods.
Now. You show how it is logical to believe.
"Sorry , but we are talking about the christian religion. I guess you didn't watch the video that the OP linked to at the beginning of this thread."

You just proved my argument concerning faith.
"To the other people religeon dosnt have to be based on facts it is FAITH how many times do people have to tell you."
Just because you believe something does not automatically make it true. How many times do we have to tell YOU that?

NO WAI ARE YOU SERIOUSLY TELLING ME JUST BECAUSE I BELIEVE TACO BELL IS THE BEST FAST FOOD PLACE THAT DOSNT MAKE IT TRUE!?!?!?!?!?!
"Provide the scripture."
Just because i dont remeber where it came from dosnt mean it dosnt exist it was posted not too long ago.
The First Amendment with the right spin can say anything.

I take it you are good at dodgeball.
"Do you believe in the flying spaghetti monster? The celestial teapot?Of course you do not. Why do you not believe in either of them? Because you understand that it is illogical to believe in them as their existance cannot be proven in any way."
No because it is satiracle bullshit formulated to give you a faulty argument.

Obviously you don't know as much about the bible as you claim. Jusy saying that the bible says it is not a valid argument. You fail.
The First Amendment with the right spin can say anything.
Which part of the phrase "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof is too complicated for you to understand?
You fail again.
"Do you believe in the flying spaghetti monster? The celestial teapot?Of course you do not. Why do you not believe in either of them? Because you understand that it is illogical to believe in them as their existance cannot be proven in any way."

No. They both show that it is illogical to believe in things simply because they cannot be disproven.
You fail, yet again.
I had hoped that you might actually have more to support your position than baseless assertions and sarcastic comments. I was obviously mistaken.
I will no longer waste my time with you.

Well even if i posted the verse it wouldnt make a difference.

Like I said it can say anything if you twist it enough.
"No. They both show that it is illogical to believe in things simply because they cannot be disproven.

Oh thank you for telling me why i believe in God this changes EVERYTHING.
"I had hoped that you might actually have more to support your position than baseless assertions"
Shit me to.
"I will no longer waste my time with you."
Good im feed up with your bullshit.

Everyone believes their views are in some way correct or at least better than the alternatives, or else they wouldn't hold them. The large majority of people wish to take steps to ensure their views are propagated through society. Obviously people who see other views being spread will generally consider it an outrage, as they see these views as false.
'But', you say, 'my beliefs are true, look at all this evidence.'
Everyone can provide evidence for anything. Everyone believes their evidence is true, and the evidence for other views is flawed.
Maybe you say that you have a system that decides what is evidence from what isn't. But everyone has these systems.
So, how do you know you are right? How do you know that your views are the ones that should be spread? Or that other views should not be spread? Even more importantly, what is it that makes spreading the truth better than spreading non-truth?
