A Saviour

Sent to Earth to live as a mortal through whom it was possible for sinners to be reborn into immortal life.

He died for our sins but came back to life the following sunday.

He was born of a virgin in a manger or possibly cave attended by wise men.

Became known as the light of the world.

12 diciples with whom he shared a last meal

Devotees symbolically consumed the flesh and blood of him.

Devotees HQ was on vattican hill in Rome

So anyone know who this is?

sunday = sun worship reference

image of god = old man with a beard = image of zeus

Oh and Jesus' birthday is not december 25th. The bible doesn't mention it, although religious scholars put it somewhere in late spring/early summer. It was changed to december 25th to make the transition to christianity more convenient for their pagan/roman converts.

A lot of fanatic christian denominations actually tell their followers not to celebrate christmas.

christianity = a mash of several different religions.

"yawn" because I sincerely doubt (or hope at least) that there is no one, who posts here regularly, who didn't know that. I refered to christians as 'Neo-Mithrians' here often enough.

We're not talking PHD stuff here.

Why would I want to 'release' christians? Even I'm not that arrogant.

Judaism has stolen some too. The Binding of Isaac is a ripoff of a Hindu story.

Personally i think humans as a race would be happier if we lived as if this is our only life, and embraced other human beings as if they are such....

you missed out that mithras was born on dec 25th.

heres another one:

mortal virgin mother
fathered by the king of heaven
turned water into wine
came back from the dead
liberator of mankind

that one is dionysus, it predates methras so it isn't as refined.

but seriously, how do christians explain this wonderful coincidence?

just kidding!

It appears as though your ideas need to be grown toward a raltional reasoning. Greater than the written subject but still reaching a reasoned actual religious conclusion

For the Christians here. How do you feel about all the things that Christianity has borrowed. I know of many people who feel that everything related with Christianity is infallible and those are just coincidences. These similarities are too close to Christianity to be coincidences. These include mithraism. Mithras was born a virgin birth on December 25, was the savior for mankind, had 12 deciples, and died for mankind. Except this existed hundreds of years prior to Christianity, it was the chief religion of the roman army. Then there are all of the holidays that coincide with pagan ones. December 25th being a very important date because it is the winter solstice. Ancient people prayed on that day that the sun would come back the next day because the days were getting consistently shorter. Then we have the heaping pile of pagan influence seen in the Easter holiday. The rabbit, spring, and eggs = fertility and the vernal equinox. Don't forget the evolution of Hades into hell.

I don't think it diminishes from the true teaching of Christianity. I completely understand and applaud Thomas Jefferson for what he did with the bible. I see it more as a creative marketing campaign to sell Christianity to John Q. Public. If Jesus was just a nice guy with some nice ideas, how many people would hop on that bandwagon? To get it off the ground Christianity needed some pizazz, and to be more marketable.

And an oops because I didn't know threads could merge. I thought I screwed up and hit reply to topic on accident. This is from a thread I tried to start but didn't know one similar already existed.

What? Using your faulty logic to inform me of what a certain piece of bronze age literature has to say? I am going to preach the word from my good book to you.

The good prophet Sam said
I do not like them in a box.
I do not like them with a fox.
I do not like them in a house.
I do not like them with a mouse.
I do not like them here or there.
I do not like them anywhere.
I do not like green eggs and ham.
I do not like them, Sam-I-am.

We must heed these words unless we want to be banished to the mountain overlooking Whoville.

ok normally i dont like to use links but i dont know much myself to argue it so i dont want to sound ignorant(like you people)!!!

this site explains why that the scholars who promote this shit is very biased and highly mistaken!(it completely owns)

example:

the scholars say that the bible or NT stole the resurection story from Mithras and some other mystery religion god! but infact it turns out that thier resurections was nothing like Jesus! not even remotely!!! Mithras wasn't technicaly a resurection, it was the cycle of life to be "reborn", much more like hinduism than Christianity! they thought how the trees are reborn in spring and die in fall was how life was!!! And the other person was "resurected"(technically not resurection either) as the God of the underworld!!! But the scholars like to generalize things to make things sound differ than they really are prob. out of spite!!!

one thing i would like to add to the arguement is that the liberal scholars also say that we stole december 25 from Mithras! But the idea for Christmas was never thought up untill the 1800's! And untill then jesus never had an exact date for his birth!!! So i doubt we copied and if we did it disproves nothing!!! Also the fact that if there was any copying going on it was them copying us!!! the Mystery religions didnt come public untill hundreds of years AFTER the bible was finished! but even then all thier ideas were reformed at that time so all things they thought before was changed!!! One thing the author didntknow or just didnt mention it is that Jesus most likely died 280 years before the accpeted date and the whole switch in BC to AD! Which means that the books of the bible were written 250 years before!!!

Ditch your lie of a religion. Come join me. You don't want to be banished to the mountain overlooking Whoville. In the good book, Chapter Horton Hears a Who! God incarnate as Horton protects earth (Whoville) from utter destruction. Later chapters such as How The Grinch Stole Christmas details how you can seek and receive redemption. This is the true belief system and all others will be condemned to living on the mountain outside Whoville.

Horton bless your soul, young one. I hope you see the light and seek redemption.

one thing i would like to add to the arguement is that the liberal scholars also say that we stole december 25 from Mithras! But the idea for Christmas was never thought up untill the 1800's! And untill then jesus never had an exact date for his birth!!!

"The Romans held a festival on December 25 called Dies Natalis Solis Invicti, "the birthday of the unconquered sun."

Emperor Elagabalus (218-222) introduced the festival, and it reached the height of its popularity under Aurelian, who promoted it as an empire-wide holiday."

so we can show the roman empire had a festival on 25th december pre-dating jesus.

""It was a custom of the Pagans to celebrate on the same 25 December the birthday of the Sun, at which they kindled lights in token of festivity. In these solemnities and revelries the Christians also took part. Accordingly when the doctors of the Church perceived that the Christians had a leaning to this festival, they took counsel and resolved that the true Nativity should be solemnised on that day." (cited in "Christianity and Paganism in the Fourth to Eighth Centuries", Ramsay MacMullen. Yale:1997, p155)"

that is from a 12th centurary bishop, blowing your idea that jesus's birthday was not considered until 1800.

im not sure what your point is, but the conversion from the pagan holiday to jesus's birthday is pretty well documented and easily traced; only an idiot would dispute it.
