I was just curious what religions you guys follow and why.
So what is your favourite religion and why?
I'm an ecclectic agnostic so if it makes sense I'll believe it, or just incorporate into what I believe.
My favourite religion is buddhism, mahayana school is fantastic, it allows you freedom of deity worship while offering practical (and some scientifically proven) principles that allow you to lead a healthier life. I also like rinzai school zen buddhism but more so the offshoot bushido, the active meditation really rings true to me, and offers the same great stuff as mahayana, and who doesnt love koans.

buddhism is not a religion. It's spirituality. Big difference their.

arguable. I agree it is more of a way of life, but it is still viewed as one the great religions of the world. Any theology/religions text book will talk about buddhism.

so your atheistic, why is that, I should have mentioned for all intensive purposes atheism is a religion for this thread (although it is clearly oxymoronic)

In that case is spirituality? If so I'd say that's mine.

So this is how you scene atheist liberals are justifying the fact that in addition to watching atheist movies you also watch buddhist movies about "enlightenment". :p
Guess what, it's a religion!

I'm not sure if you are being sarcastic or really serious about that statement.
I like Gnostics. They are so paranoid about Christianity. Yet they add so much mysticism to it that they make their version of pseudo-Christianity even less plausible. I also like the specifc parts of Judaism that were Greek in nature, introduced during the Babylonian captivity. A crapload of mysticism there.

Pantheism.
It's cool with science but at the same time realises this doesn't have to be cynical in nature. You can practice being content from nature just like from god.

Wasn't it Voltaire who said pantheism is a polite form of atheism?
Pastafarism of course.

is that a theology text book?
(ans: No, It's scripture)
Norse theology is fucking badass. No one can argue with Thor.
I would probably identify myself as agnostic, as logic seems to dictate to me that regardless of the arguments from all sides, one can never be certain one way or the other.
Me:
30% Atheist
30% Pantheist
20% Deist
15% Agnostic
5% Buddhist
Why:
--Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence (and by evidence I mean empirical evidence).
--What could be more extraordinary than the universe?
--Best juxtaposition with science.
--Because you really can't prove ANYTHING.
--For the spirituality that I just can't get through the religions (beliefs, etc) above.

I'm a fan of Sikhism and Zoroasterianism.
Sikhism because I admire their "noble warrior" ethos. Their whole religion revolves around being a virtuous soldier and protecting the weak from tyranny no matter what their beliefs. Thats just bad ass.
Zoroasterianism because they're almost extinct because they won't accept converts and children born of mixed-religion marriages cannot be Zoroasterian. You've got to admire such pig-headed devotion to an ideal. Thats one religion that never sold out.
