View Full Version : The Bible
So I have always genuinely been interested in the Bible. Not because I am religious or anything, but because I think it is a pretty intense and bazaar story, and a good fictional piece of literature. I can't really get myself to sit down and read it because of all the other books I am constantly reading.
I was wondering if anyone had any good sites that gave a detailed summary of it and whatnot, I want to know all the specifics of it, but in laymens terms. I know Argon has a great deal of knowledge on this topic, so hook it up.
thanks,

bizarre.
But yes, good stories, a little unbelievable, but good. And usually with a lesson.
That said, I don't believe it to be historically accurate, nor do I see it as a holy book. I honestly do not see how people can take this book literally.

I kind of do. Look at history and you'll see that there have been shitloads of examples of people doing something detrimental to others for their gain. The Bible provides a character that somehow did only the opposite, and this gives some people hope. Other characteristics in the book are twisted by cruel characters to create catatonic constructs of social destruction. People see an extreme world, find an extreme reaction, and go with it. It just doesn't cross most minds that you can deny something without going over to the exact opposite. Sometimes the truth is much different than what we even thought possible. Sometimes the truth is two things at once, that seem to contradict like hell, but make perfect sense if you're not seeing the world in black and white. Logic is damned fine for determining certainty of truth, but sometimes the truth can't be found inside a box. Because of all that, some people turn to religion.

How can you know something isn't true if you've never read it?

I know that A Clockwork Orange isn't true. I haven't read it yet (starting it tomorrow).

The same way we know tabloids aren't true without reading them.
