View Full Version : Making a CB antenna

Last week, I found an old CB radio in a skip (looks typically 80s!). I powered it up and it all lights up and appears to work, but I don't have an aerial for it. I've looked around the 'net everywhere I could, but all the DIY ones need adjusting with an SWR meter, which I don't have. I don't really want to buy one (a meter or an aerial) as I only want to muck around with it....and I'm cheap.

I've tried various lengths of wire and even tried making one of the designs which need adjusting, but so far I've got nothing on any channel. Anyone know how to make a simple one? Thanks.

take ure pic
dont kno US hf cb freq, but i think its just above NZ so i gave 27.6
should be close enough to resonant to allow ok signal.
if US is anything like NZ then the band is mostly dead.
apart from truckies and the ocasional convoy of RVs

Thanks. I'm in the UK, so it's from 27.6 to 27.9 - I'll give some of those antennas in the screenshot a go.

How about buying a cheap one off the net?
