I can see that supporting the OP's point.

Even during the World wars there were members of religious institutions proclaiming their God's will to do this and that.

It comes down to the individual's beliefs on why that war is being fought - and whether or not he should stand against it as a 'religious man'.

More often than not in recent wars many members of those fighting have held some sort of religious background for their cause - even if it may simply be to encourage others into their ranks.

It's probably why the church is officially silent on the issue of the 'war against terror'.

All wars? Frankly, I thought every last war ever fought was for the purpose of eliminating a threat, real or imagined.

The threat can be just about anything, but no war is fought for a reason other than insecurity.

If you think I'm wrong, name a war, and I'll prove I'm right. Hell, name any decision (tangible please...I'm not touching 'the divine' here) EVER made in all of history, and I'll prove that it was done solely because of an insecurity.

"We were convinced that the people need and require this faith. We have therefore undertaken the fight against the atheistic movement, and that not merely with a few theoretical declarations: we have stamped it out.

How you came up with the idea that it was a government promoting a secular world is beyond me.

And for the rest, They were a marxist, socialist, communist governemnts/countries. The fact that the leaders were atheist doesnt really matter. Even the fact that somebody like stalin destroyed churches and arrested priests doesnt matter. Those political movements require mass controll by the government over the people, you cant do that when theres a building spitting fairy tales taking peoples money.

If you actually attended your history classes you would know that he killed all races exept arians and nordic (and all "jewish led governments") because they were the "master race".

Hitler's religion is debatable but I dont think he was christian because all evidence points to him not and dont bring up him in church and with the pope and all that it was a political move.

You didnt address all of my wars (at the begining of the thread) and your saying that god and religion are the same thing.

I would go through your list of wars and look up the REAL causes of the war (as its been said its easier for people to back a war if it has a religious purpose behind it) but im too lazy.

Well, I got a few of them, but here they are:

Revolutionary War: (see previous post)

Second Italian War: This was a war fought on the instigation of kings. Kings rule by divine right. Hence, without divine right ergo without religion, this war would not have happened.

Spanish American War: (see previous post)

War of 1812: War was fought between Napoleon and the British Crown, again divine right.

Also, I don't see a difference between god and religion. ITs all illusion.

Alright. For one, nation-states weren't originally one worldwide nation before religion made kings invoke divine right. They were democratic city-states that devolved into monarchy because of divine right. Without religion, the democratic nature of the city-state would have been preserved, and there wouldn't be touchy pricks to start wars for the poor to fight. It wasn't the people in the trenches who were thinking "lets make the people who insulted the people who own me pay", they were thinking "when the fuck can I get out of here". You fail.

I don't know if religion is the cause of wars, but it is the nature of people to bring religion into it. The majority of people are at least slightly religious, so it is a way to group all the troops together. It's much the same as all fighting under one flag, or one country, but less formalised.

I mean, if most of the troops are christian or muslim, why not use that as a rallying point, rather than trying to explain the political differences of the enemy?
