Level 1: Physical
We can choose pain or pleasure. We can also choose to create or destroy either.
Level 2: Emotional
We can choose anger, sorrow, pain or joy. We can also choose to take or we can choose to give each of these.
Level 3: Thought
We can choose true or false. We can also choose whether to be honest or to lie.
Level 4: Spirit
We can choose chaos or we can choose peace. We can also choose to suffer either, or suffer neither.
Level 5: Source
We can choose what we base any other choices on.
This is the outline of something I'm undertaking the writing of. Still an infant outline that will probably be under work for another year or so before I actually put a pen to paper and begin the writing, but I'd like some feedback.

Sounds interesting. Wouldn't mind reading the finished product tho.
Regarding the levels thing I've been thinking about something similar to do with how many concepts in life can be seen in spiritual terms, emotional and physical terms, etc.
For instance pressure builds up in a volcano and suddenly it erupts, which is comparable to emotional pressure building up until someone loses their temper. Also It's hard to climb a mountain but easy to get down is comparable to the difficulties of success and the ease of crashing down.
There are many other examples but I'm not yet sure if they have any relevance.

Such analogous attributes are a big part of what I'm going to be writing about. The machines used to enact a choice are a big part of why many people make the more selfish decisions on a regular basis. Another thing I'm looking at is how the various types of choices can be formed into any combination; you can be an atheist with a peaceful spirit, a total fucking nut, an emotional wreck, and entirely non-violent. It's weird, no one choice in levels 1-4 determines any choice in a different level, thanks to level 5, where we can choose the very basis of each individual choice we make.

I'm not sure how you are planning on constructing the writing. Is it one book with five chapters? Is there one controlling thesis or a thesis for each level?
Level 1: Physical--(what about physical behavior?) We can also choose to create or destroy.
Level 2: Emotional--(what about "primal" emotions such as fear and love?)
We can choose anger, sorrow, pain or joy. We can choose to experience each of these (but not fear or love). (How about compassion, regret, shame, guilt, happiness, contentment.)
Level 3: Thought--(we can choose what we are thinking, we can allow a line of thought to continue or we can end it.)
We can choose true or false. (Where does belief fall?)
No tips on the rest. Sorry and good luck.

This question is why I plan on putting another year or so just into outlining my writing. It's likely going to jump from level to level to show various interactions that are possible; this being accompanied by an appendix showing what the defined levels are. There is a controlling thesis, though there are theories related to each individual level of will (these theories are based upon their ability to be exercised independent of other levels...which means they will be concerning primarily the common circumstances that lead to choices on the varying levels).
Also, thank you for the tips.

we can not turn on pain or pleasure. If you trip and snap your arm you cant turn the pain off because you dont like it. When you feel depressed you cant snap your fingers and be happy. Unless were talking about technology giving us control over our bodies through drugs etc.
There are many emotions that are still beyond our control, even with the most powerfull drugs known.
you can choose to be honest or to lie. But you cant choose whats true or false. True and false is in the eyes of the individual. What you see as true is true to you, but i might not agree. When you think somethign is false, you dont just say ok i'm goona believe that to be true. You have to be convinced by an outside source, therefor it has nothing to do with you and your will.
Chaos or peace? well sounds like your talking about emotion, nothing to do with a "spirit" And alot of times you dont pick how peacfull your mind is, or how chaotic your thoughts are. Its a natural process and were along for the ride.
