I have a question for people who are REALLY into astrology...

Never once have any of my horroscope predictions been SLIGHTLY correct in any way....and I've checked many different sources.....

How would an astrologist explain why this is so?

Maybe they will say you ae fucking up your chi? Either that or they will sy you have to believe in it for it to work. Funny that such thinking leads to delusions, but it does have a spark of truth. (See also placebo effect and pretty much all parapsycology)

Physics tell use that we are subject to all unseen forces in the universe, s I believe astrology has some effect. It works for somepeople and t doesnt for others. Some mistakenly say that means it doesnt work though. Silly people.

This is probably a Science of the Damned post, though. Errm, Paranoid Delusions.

Yea....good point....maybe I'll post one there too, probably will get more replies.

But damn, there's a couple people I've met who think astrology is THE SHIT and has predicted everything from 9/11 to their latest bowel movement.

I'll never get over that one Simpsons episode where Bart is snowed inside the school though...

The alignment of the cosmos affects the human body on a daily basis. The moon coming closer to the earth fucks with a person's blood flow, and I can't imagine that an altered blood flow during a person's prenatal and infantile years wouldn't have a determining factor on the probability of a particular personality type emerging. If they really put astrology under the microscope, they'd probably come out with some important discoveries about human psychology.

Astrology now, without that kind of research (not to mention a lack of connection to anything really spiritual) is iguana shit.

I have started to look a bit into mesopotamian mythology and there is alot of interesting stuff about astrology. I'm just starting to look into it though so I don't actually know anything about it. Check it out there is some really neat stuff. I just found this site right now http://www.nickcampion.com/nc/history/mesopotamia.htm

I don't believe in it, but I'll defend it. Same as with Christianity. Why? Because I have a theory that every belief held by anyone is logically valid if all premises are taken into account.

I've never gotten an accurate astrology reading either.
I've gotten plenty of blanket-statements that could apply to me, but they could apply to pretty much anyone. And I think thats what people do - take what their horoscope/stars say for the day, and bend it to fit themselves. (Perhaps just subconsciously)

But the idea that the planets, stars Moon and Sun can predict your personal happenings seems very egocentric to me.

The moon effect how people behave. When it is full it is lighter at night and people can go out and do stuff easyer than when it is new. The gravity from the moon and planets is nowhere near strong enough to be noticed by anything but really sensitive equiptment.

Because the writers of most astrology columns are just trying to make a buck?

I believe its real, and I also believe lots of the information on it out there is crap.

To get accurate astrology readings you have to give your exact age (including your time of birth), place of birth and maybe some other shit I can't remember.
I'm not sure how it works or even if it really does, but I had one done and it was super accurate.

^Good point. That will give you your sun sign, moon sign, and rising sign. General horoscope just work with your sun sign. if you were born on a cusp, for instance, they will be very inaccurate.

The dailies tend to be very accurate for me, as I am a double Libra--that is, Libra is my sun sign and my moon sign.

ok well i just put in my name and birth-date into "astrology.com" and it says that i was born on a cusp, or when then sun was moving in between signs. then it asked for my exact time of birth...which all i knew was around 2 int he morning ish....then it fucking asked me to register and fucking PAY to tell my future....

I don't like to talk shit about other religions (except scientology) but damn....love of money? At least the overly money-oriented televangelists ask for your donation instead of demanding your payment.

I can't see how stars would have any effect, but the predictions on http://www.astrology.com.au were oddly accurate for everyone I know. Perhaps people born around the same time in the year are similar (temperature, moon, other factors?). And of course, there's probably some "cold reading" going on...

I don't believe in it, but I'll defend it. Same as with Christianity. Why? Because I have a theory that every belief held by anyone is logically valid if all premises are taken into account.
I believe that's wrong. :)

Logically valid, not logically sound. So contradictions between beliefs are fine.

I don't believe in astrology because i'm a scorpio, and they're skeptical.
