Anyone here on Totse a Scientologist? What's it like? Is it even a religion? Come on in and correct me because I'd like to hear some opinions/facts on the matter.

lol honestly guys, this was a trap. We all could have had some fun tearing them apart.
Can't help but to admire Hubbard, how he could write such an utterly retarded story and make huge amounts of money and followers with it is unbelievable. Wish I was half as cunning as he was

The secretive nature of the religion means it's pretty hard to find true information on it.
Your best bet is to look for stuff by former scientologists.

There used to be someone who posted under the name 'Digital Thetan' who claimed to be a scientologist, but I always thought that was just Abrahim under a different guise...
He was a strange one. I wonder where he went?
you gotta give hubbard props because he did something that only a few like joseph smith did , he started a religion on pure bullshit and the best part is that he got rich off it.....godamn it!!!! i wish i could pull something like that off

He came out and admitted it was just trolling. Well, I think it was also to learn more about scientology, but still... trolling.
I imagine that Totse would probably be a blacklisted website for Scientologists as a source of evil, or whatever.
Scientologists don't like the Internet that much, look at all the mean myths and rumours spread about them on here. We just don't want them to be happy, being the suppressive people that we are.
If a scientologist does come along though, I'd like to ask why is there a volcano on the front cover of dianetics?

They're told not to look at internet sites about scientology. From private second hand accounts I gather scientology contains alot of forced confessionals (IIRC called audits) which involve relentlessly questioning the person until they give out all the information you want. It's considered a form of cleansing.
I've watched a couple of home videos posted on YouTube. Most of them are guys with camcorders filming the outside of the Scientology Churches. Then some gaurd rides up on a bicycle and pulls a knife out on the person filming. I say a bunch of us get together and start filming the outside of one of those churches. As soon as some gaurd pulls a knife on us, we can fuck him up in self defense. :D
i know a bunch about scientology and i have to say that it's really hard to find some unbiased information about the religion on the internet. Even a BBC reporter was frauding his own documentary to make scientology look bad.
the truth is scientology is like every other religion, it's a big fat scam like all the other religions, and it has it's strong points like every other religion. It's just another religion.
a lot of what you see on youtube is extreemly negative towards scientology to begin with, so finding an article that can look at it objectively is very difficult, but not impossible.
i can start you off here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dianetics it's a pretty accurate picture of dianetics which is the basis for scientology.
As an atheist i make it my job to find out as much i can about a religion before begining to blast it. this is why i have a copy of dianetics. Any one from totse who reads it will think it's pure rubish and i'm having trouble getting past chapter 5 or 6 which is so full of--- ergh, you really gotta beleive it like you beleive in the holy trinity (just like any religion).
you will find in dianetics that hubbard uses a lot of old theories and re-hashes them into dianetics. for example, he has this thing called the reactive mind. It's exactly like Freud's conscience/unconscience theory and you can see how identical the theories are.
another example is audits. the audits are a form of hypnotism and, in fact, they use regression techniques to re-live "past lives". The thing about hubbard is that he loves to take concepts that already exists and give them new names for no fucking reason. he just keeps renaming a fuck load of perfectly well established terms for no fucking reason. he created a new word for the definition of regression because regression had "negative connotations" what a fuck. it just makes the book harder to understand and in no way keeps me entertained.
Remember the "key to the universe?" it was the craze on totse, it was basically this google video that said that if you make a decision, and you believe it whole heartedly, it will come true by the "energy of the universe". This is comparable on a smaller scale to 2 football teams playing a match. if one is very optimistic and thinks they will win and the opposing team is pessimistic and thinks they will loose, it is much more likely that the optimistic team will win. this is also called "morale" in the real world. Hubbard claims this theory, i think he rewords the whole thing, not sure, have to check the book again.
another thing about dianetics is that he presents everything in the book as a fact, like many other religions acctually. But it's particularly annoying with scientology because the name has the word "SCIENCE" in it, so you might make a quick connection and think it's true, but it's not "true" (god isn't "true" either, you see what i mean by the word true now.) they are all theories.
Dianetics theories are most annoying because they tackle real issues such as having to wear glasses or colour blindness. hubbard acctually beleives that you can "reverse" colour blindness as if it wasn't some kind of genetic problem you were born with. I find that very pretentious and down right insulting to someone like me who IS colour blind and has been refused for a career in the navy because of it(something i was "whole heartedly looking forward to).
what else can i say about dianetics? i don't know why there is a volcano except the alleged TO writtings which talk about some guy called xenu. these are all rumours and therefore in order to stay objective i can not count these in my evaluation of Scientology. on a side note, assuming the thethan/xenu theory is what a scientologist will be lead to believe, you can't say it's much crazier than a woman getting pregnant from a dove entering her ear [srsly wtf] and then giving birth to her child through another means than her pussy (it's like jesus was doomed to never get in contact in any way with the pink taco) or that some invisible man created the ENTIRE UNIVERSE IN 7 DAYS WTF?!. so come on, cut the bullshit, none of these things make sense so it's not a big deal to begin with anyways.
Also, everything about scientology is EXPENSIVE. dianetics costs like 15$ this is expensive consider 1) it is a religion accepted by the government and therefore tax exempt, 2) the bible is free, wouldn't it be in the best interest of scientology to distribute it's gospel as much as possible? Audits are also very expensive ranging sometimes in the thousands. many people have been buried in debt because of scientology pressue, having to take a second mortgage on a house and some even killing themselves because it's what they saw as the only way out.
basically, everything is gonna cost you somehow [unless you work for them, the church is run like a buisness and has employees who take care of the chruch and can do audits and teach dianetics to other, they are employed hence receiving pay]. and they don't have fancy resorts and what not because of the money they make, no. they have those because many scientologists on a site is a volunteer. so they only have to buy the material. convenient to say the least. this applies to the training camps and such, not sure about the details, can't say i'm in a position to look into it, but SEA org works in a similar fashion only tighet control on personnel.
one last thing, when you are in the church of scientology, you are always watched. Anyone can write these reports about you to point out negative behaviour. This is really something that bothers me about scientology. you can beleive in whatever you want, that;s fine. but spying, that's crossing the line. I have several scientologist friends, 7 in fact. quite a lot. and one day they were talking about how many reports they had gotten. one would say 7 another 15, another 12. and i asked my friend: who writes these? and he said, oh, whoever, any one can write them.
so you are always on watch around other scientologists. pretty freaky, big brother style. So that's all the negative stuff about scientology, but there is a lot of positive stuff to:
the positive stuff:
on 9/11, there was a team of scientologist volunteers who were there to help the firefighters evacuate and treat some of the victims. they have a very tight response schedule and can be on scene in moments of a disaster happening because they have so many locations accross the USA. when the VA tech massacre happend, they were there. and i also think they were in new orleans for some time for supplies and such. can't quite remember that one, you would have to look it up for me.
scientology doesn't like psychiatrists. and they have a good reason. the evidence is hard to counter: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbL7tX78Pg4
ok so now you know something about pills that some very big corporations don't want you to know about. scientology is very much involved in the anti-psychiatry movement and that's great and all but the problem with scientology is that they see it as black and white. Yes psychiatry isn't really working, yes cures are very very difficult to come accross and yes their diagnosis books [2 of them] contradict each other at some points. On the other hand, psychiatry is known to be pill pushers, trying to make america realise how ill it is by pointing out how depressed you are, how lonely you are, etc. think about the chris rock sketch when he talks about pill adds on tv at night: "-do you go to sleep at night and wake up in the morning? -HEY I HAVE THAT, I NEED THAT PILL!!" yeah well same deal. on the other hand, psychiatry was created because it was thought possible to solve mental illneses using medication and this underlying resolve is fadding away and barely visible today. The dichotomy of the profession: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEIg1as2ppc is leading to it's demise and is leaving it to become nothing but pill pushing.
Now, you can't say that psychiatry doesn't cure anybody! it happens ever so rarely that one or two people will be "cured" from a problem that they have because it is their word, they say so and you have to take their word because they acctually know what it's like being themselves [duh]. Now i'll direct you to this interview with tom cruise about psychiatry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQCR02Unqhg&mode=related&search=
This represents exactly the situation between psych and scientology. yes, psychiatry is a pill pushing buisness but you can't deny the ever rare cured individual. Tom keeps interupting the host saying he is wrong and that the person is wrong and bla bla bla. he needs to shut the fuck up and listen. listen to what he is saying. the person said she is cured, it's so hard for a scientologist to accept that because they are so stubborn. it's like telling an evangalist that jesus had sex with mary Madelaine, omg you'll never hear the end of it. same deal.
Another organization they front is Narconon. it's a drug rehab clinic. expensive. but very good. because of their hate for psychiatry, scientologists hate taking drugs of any kind, excluding tobacco, coffee, alcohol, and such consumable drugs as those, but including the illegal ones [hypocritical, i know]. They won't even take tylenol. now this is a bitch because there is no reason for them to not take Tylenol, i have debunked their reason time and time again about this and the final answer just showed how stubborn and unresponsive to reasoning they can be. anyways, back to narconon, because they don't like drugs at all, they will rehabilitate you in a completely natural way by cleansing your body of the drugs and they will also teach you life skills and how to stay away from the pitfalls that lead to drug use and abuse.
but again, very expensive program, but very much worth it. there is a rumour that narconon turns it's clients into scientologists by teaching them scientology doctrines. it's true that they are taught scientology doctrines such as how to solve life problems and such but to assert that this converts them to scientologists is beyond what my research can tell. in any case it doesn't matter because if you went to a christian rehab center, no one would give a second thought if you came out of there a chrisitan or if you came out there with the same beleifs you had did before. narconon teaches the tools that are taught in dianetics, it doesn't necessarily mean that they convert people to scientology. just like I can read the bible and pick up moral ideas that i think are good, that doesn't make me a christian. I think every religion has something to offer -life lessons i guess- and i can pick up those things and leave the bull crap to the religious people who care about it.
Also, scientology has created an organisation called CCHR: http://cchr.org/ their intent is legit although they present it in crappy ways. as if psychiatry was to blame for every disaster and terrorist event that ever happend in the world. But, they mean well. they try and give a voice to those that are forcibly committed or stuck in psych wards and have been basicaly robed of their right to speak because they have been hooked on so many drugs that they are lost in their own mind. also, this is a good read that related to psychiatries large inacuracies: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosenhan_experiment
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwP2PP8CU0Y&mode=related&search=
ok, what else is there to say... I guess that really sums the good and the bad. You can see that it's no different from any other religion. I just think it's important that you don't take your angst out on any other scientologist. it's important to respect that because scientology is a very attractive religion and it's only natural that some people walk towards that. even though scientology can rob you blind of your money, remember, it's robbing a scientologist follower of his money. You guys aren't the victims, scientologists are victims to their own religion and they can't even see it.
the religion is very manupulative so if you're going to take your anger out, taking out on the head honchos, not the innocent guys at the bottom who don't know better.
i hope that clears things up.
wow, that was really long...

Scientology will find out your deepest, darkest secrets, and then blackmail you into giving them extortionate sums of money for this "spiritual privilege". As you progress up the ranks, you will slowly learn more about Hubble's understanding of the universe, and the "creation story", however it is a law of the church that you may not tell those of lower ranks these secrets. That's why Scientology always denies all the stuff about Xenu, it makes itself seem like a legit religion that way.
I dunno, it just seems pretty fucked up to me, maybe they do help people at some level, but they also screw up a lot of others in the process. Anyone interested in them should look for the Playboy interview with Hubble's son, it's fucking.... weird and fascinating.
I would not mess with Scientology, they have a lot of power and a lot of money, and could ruin your life pretty easily, plus they are like vampires, and use influential figures to promote their ideas...

i have heard of this but i do not attest to it's accuracy.
because you talk alot about yourself during an audit, and everything you say is recorded, they happen to have a lot of info on record.
I can not verify the black mailing as i have never read factual information about it. I would like a link to anything you talk about as a source - especially that video from the playboy interview [because playboy is such a reliable source when it comes to religion and politics ]
I read that Hubbard himself was a pretty weird guy and i saw it a bit on old footage interviews of him. he's... eccentric...

yeah, props to hubbard, and there's actually a kid in my school who's a scientologist, and he's rich, so i guess he can afford that bullshit? but i posted a thread on what i believe. ( = im trying to start a religion, not for money or anything, because it's what i believe and everyone else has corrupted religions and used them for tools of war and evil bad stuff and try to fight science vs. religion when they actually work together, but w/e. lol, you should defiantly read my thread. =D its worth the read if you change yourself as a person and get "enlightened" as buddha would say. =P
