View Full Version : christian paradox
next time you see one of those christians, ESPECIALLY Jehovah's witnesses at your door, point this out
god is present everywhere correct?
they will reply yes
so god is in hell right?
um no i dont know they will reply
well then hell simply cant exist if god isn't present there
yeah i guess he is there
so that means god watches innocent people suffer. it says somewhere in that fictitious book the bible, that if you never heard about god or jesus that on judgment day you go to heaven cause you were ignorant. well would if someone led a very moral and good life, never did any outrageous sins but just chose not to believe in jesus. they go to hell for not accepting him. that pretty much shows how sick and twisted god is if he really lets things like that happen.
edit: shit someone move this to my god can beat the shit out of your god im kinda half baked

How is this a paradox? If God is omnipresent, then yes, he'd have a presence in hell. I don't understand, what does this prove abouit God?

So... God goes to Hell, typically the place that bad people go, and then watches innoncent people be tortured. Now that's a paradox.
Our interpretations of what it takes to get to hell are differant so I can't really argue much besides my opinion that getting put in hell isn't just people who don't believe in God all their lives, but ones who feel no remorse for the bad things they've done and so on.
And, to be fair, Boozehound if I told you God was higly moral and incredibly good being, let's face it, you'd call bullshit on me. You're not that much differant.

i like this guy
the reason its a paradox is because you dont even have to mention god going to hell and watching innocents tortured, gods omnipresence and his presence in hell is bad enough, they go about their worship of god for years and it is shocking to them when you bring them to this realization, that god is in hell right now in order for him and hell to exist.

There is no paradox, you're making stuff up and then going, "SEE? I was right!"
You are in Hell because you choose to be, you are not innocent. Hell is a reflection of a shadow of Heaven, created by the minds of men for them to dwell in their own sins until they wake up and smash their creation.
"the reason its a paradox is because you dont even have to mention god going to hell and watching innocents tortured, gods omnipresence and his presence in hell is bad enough, they go about their worship of god for years and it is shocking to them when you bring them to this realization, that god is in hell right now in order for him and hell to exist."
The doctrinal Christian belief on hell is the absence of God. Whoever said that because God is omnipresent he has to be everywhere? No, he CAN be everywhere, but if the proper Christian doctrine is adhered to, and granted by now this could have changed, but I am going by early church doctrine, then Hell is a place where the Lord has refused to be present. It would be rediculous if God HAD to be everywhere at once, not that he couldn't do that, but that he doesnt have to. If indeed you are talking about the Christian God here, which would be the same God that made freewill, which would be in his image. Therefore God must have freewill and is certainly not contained by a word. This is not an attack so much as a correction, but maybe I have interpreted what you are saying wrongly, so please tell me if I have. If I have not, please provide an explanation for the reasoning you have come to. Thank you.
I'm pretty sure that the ideas of heaven and hell are a bit skewed by the KJV of the Bible. I think the Pope even said something to that extent, but i don't know where the article is. He basically said that hell isn't actually a fiery lake, that was just a metaphor. Its actually a place where god's love cannot be found, and the non-believers and others doomed to it realize just how powerful His love is, etc...
And perhaps God doesn't have to be in hell because it isn't a place on the physical plane. The books of the Bible don't say much about the afterlife, other than that it will either be very good or very bad.
hm?

I heard one the other day.
Ask a Christian if Jesus's lineage could be traced back to King David through Joseph. They say yes.
Ask them if this was prophecised in the Old Testament. Again they say yes.
Then ask them if it was a virgin birth. Again the answer is yes.
Then ask them to think about what they just said. WTF does Joseph's lineage have to do with Jesus if Joseph wasn't his father?

It has something to do with Jewish tradition although God was the father the acknowledged (Earthly, leagal) father was Joseph.

So Mary and Joseph told everyone that Joseph was the father. It's all the religious people in the past 2000 years that are saying they were wrong? That makes heaps of sense.
Dude, you have no idea how funny some of this religious stuff is.

There are hundreds of christian paradoxes. And if you really study christianity, and think about it, then it's perfectly logical to conclude that there is no hell. Hell is effectively the death of the soul. Hell is where aethists believe they're going to go.
I forget what passage it was that talks about jesus' ressurection and how he rose from hell. It's not a lake of fire, its just the cold earth and dissolution into nothing.

Jehova's Witnesses are hardly Christian; they deny important things like the diety of Christ and use the writing of the Watch Tower Society over the Bible. The JW are a cult, not another Christian denomination.

I was just rewriting what you said! For the folks that missed it:

YOU were the one that said that. Not me. Joseph was the ACKNOWLEDGED father at the time. It's all the morons that came in the last 2000 years that said God was the father.

Would have been easier to either bring them all up to heaven for a couple of months, or start from scratch (hell - it only took a couple of days for plant/ animals and people - and only 7 days if he scratched the whole thing), or dump them all on the highest peak and only let it rain for 39 days.
Why go through the whole building an ark bullshit? Seems like way more trouble than it was worth to me.....

Thats got a lot of merit to it. It wouldn't be out of the question that you're brain makes it real and it starts to dissolve and your conciousness is just lost in that until your body decomposes and you essentially forget you exist.
But still, that has absolutely nothing to do with what I was saying.

Atheists believe that your physical body dies and your consciousness fizzles out right alongside it. Zero afterlife. Zero soul.
I'm pretty certain that the Christian idea of hell involves both an afterlife AND a soul.

The Christian definition of Hell? The Christian definition of Hell should come from the Bible, no? This is what I've found regarding what Hell is like in the Bible. It doesn't reflect what any atheist I've ever met believes happens after death.
"The mighty man will become tinder and his work a spark; both will burn together, with no one to quench the fire." (Isaiah 1:31)
"The sinners in Zion are terrified; trembling grips the godless: "Who of us can dwell with the consuming fire? Who of us can dwell with everlasting burning?"" (Isaiah 33:14)
"And they will go out and look upon the dead bodies of those who rebelled against me; their worm will not die, nor will their fire be quenched, and they will be loathsome to all mankind." (Isaiah 66:24)
"His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire." (Matthew 3:12)
"If your hand or your foot causes you to sin cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire." (Matthew 18:8)
"Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels." (Matthew 25:41)
"If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out. ... And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, where "'their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.'" (Mark 9:43-48)
"His winnowing fork is in his hand to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire." (Luke 3:17)
"instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment." (Hebrews 6:2)
"In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire." (Jude 1:7)
"He will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment rises for ever and ever. There is no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and his image, or for anyone who receives the mark of his name." (Revelation 14:10-11)
"And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever." (Revelation 20:10)
