View Full Version : Thou shall not kill
Why not?
If there is an afterlife and you aren't really dieing, then why is killing someone so bad? Your soul is supposedly going to be in heaven which is supposedly a better place than here. So wouldn't the person ending your life actually be doing you a favour?
It just seems like a strange commandment if you're not actually going to be gone forever.
I'm not actually planning to murder anyone.

You end someone's life, you cause them pain, you cause their friends and family pain. Your cause problems at where ever this guy worked. You make funeral homes happy.
Really there seem to be a lot of bad things associated with killing somone.
Not to mention that if you a planning to kill someone you're generally a bad person anyway. Not many good people desire to kill others.
To finish: Murder is bad.
You end someone's life, you cause them pain, you cause their friends and family pain. Your cause problems at where ever this guy worked. You make funeral homes happy.
But people experience all kinds of pain everyday. So if you believe in God and an afterlife, then killing someone is only a minor inconvenience of not seeing that person until you yourself die.
Killing someone is only a bad thing if you don't believe in God. Because then you really are ending their entire existence, because there is no afterlife.

Killing things unnecessarily or for your own gain is bad for the community. By being part of a community, we all benefit from a easier life and a better quality of life. We created morals and values to help are communities thrive. If people went around killing each other, the community would divide and crumble and everyone gets screwed. It's just better for everyone including yourself, if we all play nice. However, our communities are starting to slip quite a bit and the things that held us together are slowly fading into things that divide us. I smell a cultural revolution on the horizon.
'If heaven is so great then what are you waiting for?'
Can't remember where I saw it.

It sounds like you've got your mind made up, and this is a scary notion my friend. If we look across most religions we can see many paralells, one important one being that one should not kill another human.
As was previously stated in a post above, taking the life of another has very bad consequences indeed. For it displaces the harmony of life, 'what harmony' I hear you saying.
You see when a life is taken it causes immense suffering for many, many people. Although your argument is that there is already much suffering in life, and yes you are correct, there is, being the source of suffering by it's very nature will come back and cause you much suffering.
It's like planting a seed, if you plant the seed of an apple tree, the chances are when the tree matures it will bring forth apples, similarly if you plant the seed of an orange tree, when the tree matures, orange fruit will come forth, similarly, if you plant the seed of evil and suffering, the tree will one day bear the fruit of evil and suffering.
In regards to: 'killing somebody is only bad if you don't believe in god' can you answer me this question, why is it that Jesus, "god's son" layed down the commandment that one should not kill, if indeed he was speaking the word of god?
It is because, like so many of his peer religious prophets, he saw the immense suffering and consequences of taking life, which is so precious.
Take care.

Thats one thing i never get with religious people. The death of somebody should be celebration, there of to the fucking afterlife. Cya later, get the fuck of my planet. Why is the death of jesus such a big deal, he was supposedly gods son. So basicly he felt a little pain (thanks to his evil father) then finally got to meet who his father was, must have been a wonderfull experience being crucified.

How many murders are commited for Good reasons? Now how many murders are commited for Wrong reasons?
When someone murders someone, they are doing something wrong, they are doing something wrong because it is often murder for something. Be it money, property or because you don't like someone, it is still wrong.
God seems to be against doing bad, generally, Christ is so against doing bad that he can't see that shit anymore. You don't murder someone because it is bad.
I mean. It's simple as that.
If God wanted us all in heaven straight away, then we'd be in heaven. Don't tell me the greatest being in existence can't work that out.
And finally, life isn't that bad. I enjoy life, I have no particular rush to get t heaven, it's gonna be there for a long time, so I can wait.
