Recently I was cleaning out a storeroom at my old elementary school and found a whole bunch of microphones that looked like these

I was wondering if they have a specific name or something

I would think that they are ribbon microphones. Johnny Carson of the Tonight Show used one made by Shure between the earliest days of the show and the move to digital audio in the Late 80's. Johnny's SM33 ribbon mic was sold at auction for just a hair over $50k
