Most would probably suggest insanity. But i heard about this totally NORMAL kid who out of nowhere was "possessed" for like an hour until a priest exorcised him. How could that be explained simply by insanity? what? he went crazy for an hour and then got all better?

They just play along since they believe they're possessed, gives them that nice feeling of having been cleansed once they get tired of screaming obseneties

It's often attributed to hysteria. Most of it is bullshit/attention whoring though.

I thought this was going to be about the old concept of demonic possession in the Biblical times and during the middle ages. Probably it was seizures and schizophrenia. Right before she died my family's beloved dog started having seizures, and she'd snarl and swing her legs around... it was really creepy to watch. And I've been around schizophrenics too, and they can be creepy as well. Probably stuff that back then seemed to be like the person was possessed by something, because that's not how they had acted when they were normal.

Right now I feel like I'm starting to get hiccups that are getting stuck in my throat. Demons have taken possession of my digestive system.

Perhaps a feeling of boredom.

The feeling that demonic possession makes them "special" and they feel like they have a purpose.

They are convinced of demonic possession in the same way people think that wearing a crucifix makes them a better Christian or person - ideas placed into their mind.

Entity attachment--commonly known as possession--does happen from time to time, but it is not as spectacular as the media or urban myth would have you think.

And good luck "proving" it scientifically. Such proof rests on reproducible results, and psychic stuff tends to be "counter, original, spare, strange," as Gerald Manley Hopkins said in a slightly different context.

Then what sort of evidence has convinced you that it does happen?

That's actually correct. Back in the middle ages and biblical times, they answered schizophrenia and other delusions as possesion. Thanks to modern psychology we now know more about it and know that it's not demonic intervention.

Some lady thinks my mom is possessed. She goes to my mom's day spa on Sunday and Wednesday nights between midnight and 2 a.m. and sprinkles red and black "pixie dust" in front of the door and dances to "ward the demons off". I really want to hide a camera up there and dress in a black robe and scare the shit out of her. She thinks her own husband is demon possessed too, as well as anyone else who isn't nice to her. O_o

I think people who are "possessed" are attention whores looking for sympathy, or theists hypocondriacs looking for an excuse to their behavior or actions.

Exorcisms are nothing more than a placebo.

Pathological autonomous complexes take over in episodes that can look like posession. Itīs just psychological but for those that believe in spiritual stuff, the collective unconscious could be seeen as a medium for a complex to transfer from person to person.

and thnks to modern medical advances we latter found out that shock therapy and frontal labodimies (sp?) solved the problem completely

I'm not sure about how one would go about proving whether or not someone is possessed.

But there is a definitive method for telling whether or not someone is a witch.

you bound the suspected witchs hands together and throw them into a body of water. If the person is not a witch, they will predictably sink under the water....but if they are a witch, their powers (or satan) will save them, and they will rise to the surface. In witch case you can get ready to burn them at the stake.

actualy the correct method is to see if they weigh as much as a goose because.
for witches to burn they must be made of wood and wood floats, geese also float so they must weigh the same amount as witches.
