"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. "

Genesis 1:27

According to different versions of the creation story, Adam had a wife before Eve (as is apparent when you read the above quote).

Now, Alpha Betha of Ben Sira states that Adam and Lilith argued due to Lilith wanting to go on top during sexual intercourse - Lilith saw herself as Adam's equal.

Lilith is where the myth of the "Succubus" came from. I even recall reading something about her spraying her seed onto the land, creating people (which would explain where Adam's sons got their wives from).

What are your thoughts on this?

I do feel that the Lilith story does fill in some of the more obvious gaps in the Genesis myth.

I assume it was removed by the priests during the redaktion and collation of the Pentateuch.

But for the life of me I can't imagine why they would remove it.

To me it feels like a hole in the story of creation - or that something has been left out.

Was lilith a human in the story?

if so it would mean that she was the original heretic, if not then hell was around before humans.

So it sounds like 'original sin' isn't so original.

Reading that, I was reminded of the Egyptian goddess, Isis, who also used the magical name of God (in her case Ra) to defy Him.

I can see why they'd want ot cut the whole "you're almost purely demons" out

It's amusingly fitting though

Not so much Hell, but I do believe Sheol was created before humans. Lilith was just as human as Adam, since they were created in a fission type manner.

I'd think because there was no real lesson to be understood. There was a power struggle and she left. Then after Adam and Eve were thrown out of the garden, there was a very brief period where Adam left Eve for Lilith. A lot of unnecessary story telling, kind of like the soap opera the Greeks used to call their Gods.
