I've made an AM transmitter, meant for sending morse code. It doesn't have a modulator, so it's just beep or no beep.

What's the smallest, simplest AM reciever I can make? I do need to be able to choose the frequency, though just once, so if the frequency is built into the circuit that'd be good. I only need about 1-2 miles range from a decent AM transmitter.

Can you show us some kind of specs, drawings or photos so we can get an idea of what you have thus far. You may be able to spare yourself time and money if we can find a way to upgrade existing hardware.

I only have a transmitter constructed at the moment, but I'll post specs if you want them.

The only thing I really know about making an AM reciever would be an untunable (as far as I know) one:

Crystal Headphones
::::::::::|::::::::::|
Ground----Diode----Antenna

Ignore the colons on the second line, they're for spacing the pipes right.

(Space reserved for transmitter schematic when I get back from work)

why not get an old cb which had the crystals in them.. you will (probably) need to adjust the turns on the coils to match whatever crystals you decide to use...

or you could practice with the ones that come with the set...but you might draw attention because it is a public band.

either way it will be a cheap way to get your hands on something, which will be close to what you are trying to do, while learning at the same time.
