I've never seen a thread like this here, so I thought I'd start one...

...put something here from your book of shadows. I will put down some things from mine when I get the chance, but I don't have too much to share, I just started my book.

My book of shadows says I've got a brand new pair of roller skates, and you've got a brand new key.

I think that we should get together and try them out, you see...

But jokery aside, I'd actually like to see some examples. :)

This seems like a rather puerile idea, being that one's book of shadows is supposed to be private. "I'll show you mine if you show me yours"-- kindergarten stuff.

Not to mention the "power shared is power lost" principle.

Mine says

"The cosmos inspires fear and hatred, leaving many a lies behind. The love that was once shared is embodied in the evil spirits which can be overcome by eating muffins and jam. The muffins must be wholemeal, and the jam must be blueberry, I have tried without and it only caused suffering. Blueberry jam on wholemeal muffins enlightens the world and aligns it closer to the true nature of energy and existence."

I can't dispute with your own personal beliefs.

But if you feel like you could share, what is the reasoning behind "power shared is power lost" I don't really see it. I don't.

Firstly, define power, what does power mean in this sentence?

Book of shadows; I'll look it up on sacred texts, [shrugs shoulders].

You're new here, so I'll cut you some slack. One's book of shadows is one's personal journal, diary of spells, whatever. I can't imagine any serious Wiccan even considering asking to see someone else's Book of Shadows. Like I said--kindergarten stuff.

As far as sharing in general, many of my 11,000 posts or so have been just that--sharing personal experiences, knowledge both mundane and metaphysical, and a bazillion or so psychic readings done pro bono.

The fact that I cited the "power shared" thing--which is common knowledge in serious Wiccan circles--does not mean I endorse it. Over the years, I have cited any number of concepts which are not part of my personal reality--despite any appearences to the contrary, I do not consider myself the final arbiter of truth, although I do often cite instances of concepts which have been considered by many of my peers--Mithra, the Buddha, Jesus of Nazareth, Shakespeare, Neale Donald Walsch, Deepak Chopra, and Shirley McLane (to name but a few) considered to be common knowldge, part of what Deepak calls the new paradigm, and what Walsch calls the new gospel--even thought here is precious little "new" about any of it.

As far as "power" itself goes, there are many definitions--I simply regard it as the abiliuty to get things done.

Thanks for cutting me a little slack here. I'm not brought up yet in a specific Wiccan methodology, so I don't know very much about how serious, experienced circles tend to do things. Personally, I record personal experiences and things that I believe to be virtuous and true. And sometimes I record things about Herbology and Gardening, Maybe Astrology. It is something that I plan on passing down through and maybe even showing to my own children when they're old enough.

As for the journal part, I have a separate book just for that.

I'm only 15 years old, and I've just been introduced to Wicca by my mother about a year ago. We're solitary Wiccans for the most part. It's just this one occasion that I seek to go out on the internet and see how other people practice. I think that one of the best ways to do that would be to have someone share if they want to a page out of their book of shadows if they'd like to.

In my own sect of beliefs that I've developed, I find it crude to use a book of shadows as a journal. I tend to use it as a record of knowledge gained, and a way to maybe share that knowledge.

My logic, if knowledge isn't shared at all, it is generally lost. If it's shared too much it is corrupted.

^Okay, now I think I get where you're coming from. Maybe this will be of some interest--I don't have a book or journal, but from time to time, I just post things where I will see them on the way out of my cabin. My current note to myself says this:

We are All One.
Accept everything.
Judge nothing.
Bless everyone.

When I remember that--and govern myself accordingly-- the day goes very smoothly.

When you say that note to yourself. What do you mean by it. In full. (To reduce misunderstanding)

As my own sect of beliefs that I have going on, aside from my other journals I have my book of shadows, my personal journal, and a "confession book".

In my book of shadows, I write down things I've learned and intend to pass on.
In my personal journal, I write down just like a daily journal, but I don't share it.
In my confession book, I write down anything I've done dishonestly, and confess upfront.

Each book has a special pen and a special ritual, the pen and ritual is tuned to the purpose.

Example, I write with a very reliable, medium point pen in my book of shadows. In my book of shadows I write confirmed things that I herald to be true and tested. First I write a draft on a sheet of notebook paper, correct any errors, then neatly write down in book of shadows.
In my journal, I write with a ballpoint regular black pen, and write when I have the time and need to get things off my mind. Usually I write daily.

In my confession book however, it's grueling... I write with a broad point fountain pen (Sheafffer) in black ink in solid letters. It takes awhile to write down too. Meanwhile while I'm writing I'm really thinking about what I'm doing. It's like a punishment, but a relief at the same time when I write it down, the pain of the lie is off my mind, but realizing and admitting to it is painful sometimes.

Knowledge
September 17, 2007

In my experience, knowledge is like an undeveloped photograph.

With the right chemicals, technique, and photographer. Captured knowledge can turn to a beautiful photograph that is well respected and honored.

When the picture is taken at the right speed and with the right film, angle, and aperture in mind, it is neither too bright or too dim, and if need be is focused upon what is needed to be focused on. Disheeding any surrounding distractions.

This photograph, however perfect. If shared to much becomes a meme that nobody appreciates and often edits for their own purposes.

However, if it is reserved too much, it is lost.

Observation is the key.

Those four sentences form the basis for most of he books on metaphsyics that have been written. For amplification see:

any of the dozen of so books by Neale Donald Walsch;
any book by Deepak Chopra but especially Power, Freedom and Grace;
anything written by Stephen Gaskin;
the Vedanta;
stuff by St Teresa of Avilla or St John the Divine.

That should keep you busy for a while.

Really?
That's a coincedence, because I've got a brand new combine-harvester and I'll give you the key.
