I drive a '96 Honda Accord and a few months ago the radio just kind of went out on me. I was driving listening to music and it starts making these static and put-put-put-put-put noises along with random radio stations being picked up. Then to the weird part, my tape player doesn't work either. Whenever I put that in it starts making motorcycle noises and deep bass puts that I can feel. Then one day, I had the static on low because I hate driving in silence and the radio pops back on, I was happy and drove for about 20 minutes before it crapped out again. Now it does this more often where it craps out then comes back on and if I pop in the tape real quick I can listen to that with a little bit of noise that comes and goes. Last week the radio started making high-pitched squealing noises that increased in frequency before the radio was about to come back on and last night it made some sine noises.

Now my questions. Is this just the sign of an old radio and should I forget about it and live with it? Is there a way to fix it myself? I'm too broke to afford a new one. Or does my radio need an exorcism?

No. It needs repaired or replaced. Sounds like it might be a pretty easy fix. If I had a wiring harness for that unit I would try it.
