^That is a common misconception.

Thing is,pigs don't have sweat glands, and will lie around in mud to keep cool--given a choice, however, they would prefer clean water to lie around in.

And domesticated pigs don't have much choice regarding their menu, so will eat pretty much whatever is given them--floor sweepings, corpses, whatever.

Pork is naturally a fatty and cholesterol-laden meat. If God wanted to keep his people healthy, it wouldnt be the best choice of food to give them.

Jesus told Peter to eat a bunch of animals including bugs at one point. Peter complained about it saying that they were unclean. Jesus then replied telling Peter not to call animals unclean which he called clean. (Acts 1:5)

There's a long standing conception that pigs are dirty and unfit to eat, thus the campaign with the whole "The Other White Meat" thing. Plenty of old people will refuse to eat pork for the same reason, or will have reservations about doing so. It's probably also a class thing.
