View Full Version : What's the point of a faith?

What makes one faith any more significant than another? Who are christians to say they are worthy of heaven and anyone who deviates from their ideal beliefs will burn in hell? How do they know what god really wants?

I don't see any sensible theory to why they should feel superior.

I would have respect for the religion itself if it weren't for jesus freaks.

I've decided to drop religion all together. I think I'm very well capable of thinking for myself without having my family pressuring me.

As George Carlin said, "When it comes to bullshit, religion takes the cake."

Nothing.

Arrogant, thoughtless drones. Welcome to humanity.

How do they know what god really wants?

Nobody does.

God doesn't want anything.

What's the point of faith?

It brings comfort to people, it brings an understanding, and without it no experience would seem to be real.

They were rhetorical questions. I merely wanted to see everyone's opinion on the topic.

I don't think god expects much out of us.
I am positive I wouldn't either, if I were god. Everyone can develop their own path to god, I suppose.

Someone goes through the trouble of answering questions as he see things in a thread you started and you respond by telling him your questions were rhetorical?

Yet you still want opinions on the topic?

And theres mine.

This is also my opinion:

...if I were god.

You are.

But I don't wanna get e-slapped by angry atheists. I won't bother going any further here.

Yes he has hijacked many thread.

Let me give the scoop into this child's amazing insight.

The only thing you know is that you exist. Everything else is an illusion. This makes you a god.

I know it is pretty deep. (you just got e-slapped)

I know it is pretty deep

Quite the contradiction to only knowing one thing, that is.

'A' god...hahahahaha

Attention readers:

Notice how he has not really defended his simplistic assessment of the entire multiverse which is this:

The only thing you know is that you exist. Everything else is an illusion. This makes you a god.

Why do their opinions matter to you?

Notice how he has not really defended his simplistic assessment of the entire multiverse

Because I already have for you. Notice how you imply you know more then one thing to be true?

I am implying YOUR thoughts and philosophy.......and yes I agree.......YOUR thoughts and philosophy ARE self-refuting.

Thus making them = to shit. I am sorry I meant making them (which are illusions) equal to the illusion of equal and the illusion of shit.

Whats the point of finding the truth?

Whats the point of science?

Whats the point of science?

To understand.

But when you think about the fact that everything must eventually pass, including ourselves and our race, what is the point of trying to figure out why and how? When we die, our knowledge goes with us, and when we are gone, that's it. No point in stacking all this information when we are not going to use it.

How does Obbe know that he isn't an illusion as well? After all, anything in relation to something else encompasses the traits of the former. Albeit, the degree of that particular quality is liable to change. Finally, how does that make you a god?

How does Obbe know that he isn't an illusion as well?

To you I am.

But I know I'm not, because all I know is that 'I AM'.

Finally, how does that make you a god?

The presence which 'I AM' recognizes is the base of all. All possibilities, all experiences, all expressions come forth from 'being'.

Exactly. I think many of us have said this before...

What makes me wonder, dear Obbe, is what basis you have for your opinion that you know 'I AM' in the first place? I was of the impression you didn't know Descartes' theories, meaning you weren't apparently using cogito ergo sum. So, care to enlighten me?

Also, to the OP: Welcome to cynicism.

And the fact that hindus believe that living one's life for vishnu/krishna is the only way into nirvana. Those arrogant fucks along with their lardy buddah, we'll be narrow minded if we feel like it. Reincarnation isn't real.
