If they want to live in the same manner as Muhammad's time (no religious modernism), why don't they fight with swords and spears instead of modern weapons?

Because, like most people, they are perfectly rational in all aspects of life, bar religion.

^This pretty much.

And also, wouldn't you rather fight in the name of god with bombs and fuckin big as guns than swords and shit?

Actually... the United States didn't think this through.

This is off topic, but I don't know what was going on in Washington when they decided they were going to go into a country, oust it's oppressive government, take away the ONE cash crop these people have going for them in the name of some long lost "war on drugs", and then expect the locals to welcome the American presence, as opposed to the Taliban government.

People are starving and dying, because we're fining, jailing, and destroying opium crops.

If we were smart, we would go after the buyers, not the sellers whose economy is a key aspect in fighting terrorism. If they need opium money to survive, we need to sacrifice some "moral decency" and fight the greater evil. Let them sell opium. Crack down and punish the shit out all the dealer/traffickers who buy it. This will:

A) Let the Afghan economy thrive on it's "black gold".

B) Have the slight potential of reducing the demand for opium, thus encouraging Afghans to find alternate economic crops.

I'm sorry this is so off topic, not even the right forum. And I'm not trying to hijack this thread... but I had to say this.

Resume.

The government doesn't want to win the drug war, or any war for that matter. They just want to give your tax dollars to their defense companies and sell your kids drugs from their cartel.
