Secular schools can never be tolerated because such schools have no religious instruction, and a general moral instruction without a religious foundation is built on air; consequently, all character training and religion must be derived from faith; we need believing people

yes, our kids need to be equipped with an almost fanatical devotion to the pope.

Morality doesn't come from god, you fool. If god told you to torture a baby would that make it moral? No.

It's not my quote. But it's someone you've probably heard of.

if you are trying to say that you cant have morals w/o religion then you are a fool.
Religious schools have no place in society. You are your own god. Live, fuck, die, we are just animals. Shit flinging monkeys who have descended from the trees to try to instill some since of meaning in our lives with that thing called god. Yes I agree you can't have morals without god or culture, because really, there is no right and wrong. Everything we think of to be right or wrong is just because that is how our culture has programmed us. And these things are programmed in us to maintain order. As John Locke I believe said it, "government is a trade of freedom for safety". And god is just another tool of culture. The law of the animals is survival, and as humans, we have risen above the law of nature and without the kill or be killed, we have established order. This society though, like everything built by humans has flaws, and organized religion is one of them.

You've never heard of humanism, have you? As in, secular morality? From what I've read of it, it's actually a lot more easy to swallow than a Judeo-Christian ethic based on 'God said so!!!!!!!!'

By the fourth-post down you should have been googling the quote instead of thinking about how you were going to make yourself look better.

How so? Morality promotes the smooth interaction between humans. It has little to do with religion. In fact, religion is built on morality.
Phew, I thought OP was trolling for a second there.:o

Morals demonstrably do not come from religion. Besides the fact that most of the major holy books often give self contradictory moral guidance, a lot of what is in there is morally very dubious (passages in the bible where people are praised for handing over their daughters for gang rape, amongst other examples).
you cannot say that there would be no morals without god as an enforcer either. Would you still be moral if you didn't believe there was a god watching? if you would, you acknowledge that morals do not require religion. if not, you are an amoral bastard anyway, and you just do it to avoid the consequences.

Suicide bombers are devout Muslims, and Islam is an Abrahamic religion, just as are Christianity and Judaism. One could cite numerous other examples from less recent history.
So much for religious morality.

I wasn't trolling. It was a quote from Adolph Hitler; which completely diminishes the Hitler=Atheist lie.

If someone does something because they say it will make God happy, they're obviously just doing it to make themselves happy.
Like killing Jews n' stuff.

No, it's just a rationalization that most people believe because most people are religious.
"The people are more willing to trust a man they think is pious and faithful"--Plato, Socrates, or Aristotle; can't remember.:(

Machiavelli?
Machiavelli?
No I'm pretty sure it was a Greek philosopher, although Machiavelli might well have repeated it. I don't remember reading it in The Prince though.
