Hello All:
Like the title says. I'm new to the ham radio world. I've read a couple of books regarding the technology behind it and some technical stuff that comes with it. I have a very basic knowledge about this domain. I'd like to find an "Elmer" or anyone with some knowledge to help me out here.
First I need to know what equipment do I need to buy to have my station up and running, then I would like to know more about the technical stuff such as the repeaters, Filters, Tuners, Dx, UHV.... etc
And here is a technical question I'm really concerned about : I live in a country where I don't think they support Radio Amateurs, and there isn't any FCC organization in here, plus I don't think there is a place where you take the tests to get your license and call name. Could I be TRACKED if I started the station and began transmitting or receiving without being registered ??? and can I get into trouble if I scan other frequency's e.g Police, Commercial or military ???
That's all for now but I really hope I can get some help from totse because I'm sure there most be a couple of Ham operators lurking around ......

P.S Thanks in advance if you can answer my questions and if you need to email me just mail me at : Spamless@temporaryforwarding.com
It's a a forwarding service , I will give you my real email if you are really looking forward to help me. THX !!!

where you live man? i know of a couple of countries that are anti ham. saudi royals are the only ones who can get tickets in saudi arabia - ect.

on the q
transmitters can be found by radio direction finding. and there are some people very good at it. there are also gov level equipment that make it childs play, so if it pisses the gov off then you might have some problems

recievers are almost impossible to track. a tracker will have to be within 6 feet of you to detect the IF emitions of a reciever. - to put it simply, scan away bro.

ill have a look thru my file o ham shit and send you the stuff i think will aid you.

Check out http://www.qrz.com and http://www.hamsexy.net

Getting a no-code Technician license is a breeze, and you can get a new or used 2meter/70cm handheld super cheap, like under $200.

Just a thought, If you live in a country (where do you live BTW?) where they dont have many hams then I would suggest running HF 1.8-30 mhz because if you run VHF- UHF 50-1200 mhz then you wont be talking very far where with HF its not hard at all to do 1000+ miles. Thats my 2 cents anyway.

BTW if you want any more help or anything understanding I consider myself able. arkansas250@yahoo.com
