A girl in my religion class is doing an essay on Westboro baptist church. She sent them an e-mail with several questions and they sent a quick reply. Their message is so filled with hate and is so contradictory to our common analysis of Christianity that I thought I should share it with everyone here. Please reply with any thoughts on the subject, I am currently thinking of sending them a reply e-mail from myself asking them to clarify some of my perceived paradoxes in their logic and anything you guys can add may be helpful as well.

Q: Thank you. Here are the questions, and I have to ask permission to quote you directly in the paper that I am writing, so please let me know if this is alright. Otherwise, it can be an anonymous source.
A: You should feel free to quote till your quoter is broken. J

Q.1) Why do you believe it is necessary for your church to proclaim its message to an audience who, for the most part, is in disagreement?
A) Because it is our duty to put the standard of God before this generation. The scripture says – go into all the world and preach this gospel to EVERY creature. Paul said Preach the word, be instant in season (when they like it) and out of season (WHEN THEY DON’T)! Here it is Miss Robyn – we don’t give a rat’s back side about what this generation agrees with! They have a covenant with death and with hell are they at agreement! So get past that!

Q.2) What is the overarching goal of your church?
A) To preach a faithful message FROM THE SCRIPTURES to a generation of rebels against their God WITH NO CAUSE!! The key word here is FAITHFUL! We don’t manage the message, we just preach it IN FULL and faithfully!

Q.3) How many members are there in your church?
A) I don’t know exactly how many members, but the total of all the souls that pertain to this little flock of slaughter is 71 – that would be right down to my little Great Niece that was born 9 weeks ago.

Q.4) Why is it that homosexuals, in particular, are the reason for "God's hatred of America”? What about the other supposed "sinners”?
A) Oh – don’t blame the fags – it is their enablers that are most to blame and are going to get the most wrath from their God! What kind of goofy question is #2 here – what is that supposed language and why the “ marks around sinners? Do you fancy little Miss Robyn that you are not a sinner? This is a filthy nation that is in full on angry rebellion against the Lord their God. Your sins are as many as you can think up – and you do any filthy thing that you think of. Fags are just the bottom wrung on the depravity chain. They will not even admit that they are sinning!

Q.5) The Bible proclaims that the Christian God is a forgiving God. Why would a forgiving God, as you claim, "hate" his children?
A) Stop lying on the Bible and God! You will bring wrath on yourself for that! There is NO forgiveness without repentance! When you are proud of your sin, you will NEVER repent! The scripture says that God hates most people! That is the default!

Q.6) The Bible also says that no one is perfect, therefore everyone is a sinner. What are the Westboro Baptist Church’s sins? And why are they forgiven?
A) Well – it’s nice to see that you can come close to what the Bible says! It says that you cannot please God in the flesh – that everyone sins and that everyone is a liar! Your second question is wrong in several ways. We do not and will not glory in any of our sins, we do not make sin our vocation and we strive against sin. Further, we have the kindness toward one another to watch and provoke each other to OBEY the commandments – we follow the Bible that says – EXHORT one another DAILY, while it is called TODAY least any be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin! As for the last question – you dope – the ONLY reason our sins are forgiven, if they are, would be because the Lord Jesus Christ died on that cross for our sins! If he did not die for our sins, they will NOT be forgiven and we will have to pay for them in hell just like YOU!

Q.7) Is there ever any remorse for the harsh message you proclaim?
A) HELL NO!! We are not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ – we rejoice for every bit if it! We will leave the maudlin, squally drawing back for you ignorant earth dwellers that have not bothered to wrap your rebellious minds around the fact that God HATES drawing back! His soul has no pleasure in you creeps that run from his word and his standards – so shut up about that!

Q.8) You claim that "God Loves Dead Soldiers" because the soldiers represent God's wrath upon a nation that allows homosexulaity. However, these soldiers may not even be homosexual, and in fact, they are defending your right to picket, protest, etc. Why, then, is it necessary to bring their families pain?
A) They do NOT defend anything that we do – they, like you HATE God and his standards and his commandments and you – and they want us dead. So get over that! As for the whole Fag Troops thing – you need to watch this excellent Sign Movie: http://www.thesignsofthetimes.net/ft.html (https://webmail.ups.edu/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=https://webmail.ups.edu/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.thesignsofthetimes.net/ft.html)

Their e-mail was too long to fit into one message... Here is the rest of it.

Q.9) There is a commandment to "Love thy neighbor as thyself." This commandment is being violated by your message of hate for fags, hate for America, etc. How do you justify this hate as a Christian?
A) See the Love thy neighbor documents on the www.godhatesamerica.com (https://webmail.ups.edu/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=https://webmail.ups.edu/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.godhatesamerica.com/) page. The standard of loving your neighbor set by your God is that you warn your neighbor that his sin is taking him to hell – if you do not do that – God’s standard is that you HATE your neighbor in your dark, evil, selfish heart!

Q.10) Tell me about Jesus according to the WBC. Where does He come into play? Very few of your messages even mention Jesus. Does Jesus exist as a saving grace within your church?
A) See the answers to #6 above and try to hide your contempt for the very idea that it is not all about you and what you want and what you think is righteous.

Q.11) You are exercising an American first amendment right to speech. Therefore, you are supporting an American ideal. Since God hates America, why would you take advantage of its freedom?
A) Why don’t you just say that there is nothing that we can do that will be right in your blind eyes. What a silly question! We live in Doomed america – we obey the laws of God and we obey the laws of man!

Q.12) What is it about the world today, apart from homosexuality, that is causing such an uproar in your church, and why do you take it upon yourselves to deliver such a harsh message?
A) To get your rebellious mind around the answer to this question, you need to go to www.signmovies.net (https://webmail.ups.edu/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=https://webmail.ups.edu/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.signmovies.net/) and watch all those short and excellent videos. Also go to www.youtube.com (https://webmail.ups.edu/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=https://webmail.ups.edu/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.youtube.com/) and watch the excellent music videos – you type in God Hates The World; then type in Big Fibbin and then type in There Are No Heroes and finally type in God Hates Ireland – those are four of our music videos that Doomed american’s have put out onto the web for the education of the damned! J Here they are for easy access! J http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQjLLPoxbKk (https://webmail.ups.edu/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=https://webmail.ups.edu/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQjLLPoxbKk); http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQBTVgqPPJQ (https://webmail.ups.edu/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=https://webmail.ups.edu/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQBTVgqPPJQ); http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kg7AlZv2srg (https://webmail.ups.edu/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=https://webmail.ups.edu/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kg7AlZv2srg); http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlJTxnj661Y (https://webmail.ups.edu/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=https://webmail.ups.edu/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlJTxnj661Y)

Q.13) How do you interpret all of the media press you have received? Is there a goal of the WBC to not only deliver this message of hate, but to make sure it is nationally publicized?
A) EXACTLY!! So we do our job and hit the streets and we pray to the God of Heaven that holds the KEYS to the doors of utterance – HE opens the doors and NO MAN can shut them and HE shuts the doors and NO MAN can open them. That makes our lives blessedly simple – we do our job and we trust our God to make sure that the Doomed american rebels get out there and drink from the cup of his fury in our hands and they publish like a bunch of lemmings! It’s altogether lovely! We don’t have to worry one bit about it! We, the faithful servants of God – those that are permitted to ask, do ask and our God shows us great and mighty things that we could not possibly have thought of!

Q.14) You believe that America is a sinful nation and that anyone who associates itself with America is going to hell. Who, then, is to be saved? And, why, then, do you still live in such a God-condemning nation?
A) Again with the brutish and foolish and unlearned questions!! ONLY those that were chosen before the foundation of the earth – by a sovereign God – by his good will and at his good pleasure can be saved! Further, he does not consult his creatures – he expects obedience from them! If he did not choose you – you go to hell, and there is NOTHING you can do about it! So – if you have any sense WHATSOEVER, you will shut your odious cake chute and humble yourself under the mighty hand of God and OBEY all of his written word you dumb nerd! As for the why are we here – YIKES – how about this – we are EXACTLY where the Lord our God put us – it is not our job to run from this ministry that he mercifully gave us! Can you say Jonah? He tried to run and he ended up in the belly of the great fish! I don’t want that!

Now – might I just suggest one thing – the next time you ask a favor of some kind-hearted people – and they agree to answer your questions, try just a little bit to hid the utter contempt that you have for your God and therefore for his people! It will not go well for you in this life NOR in the life to come!

Q) Thank you so much for your time.
A) You are most welcome! If there is anything else, feel free to ask.

So many Christians are so unchristian nowadays.

Which is why I don't believe in organized religion. Jesus only spoke out against it, and he did directly say "Do not become a Rabbi" -being a nowadays priest, it only shows that organized religion is corruption.

Take the Catholic church to example, all their priest and the pope, they call them father, Jesus said "call no one father, for you only have one father, and he is in Heaven." -Another contradiction is that fact Jesus said DO NOT BECOME A RABBI=Priest. So why do we have them?

And the Vatican, it holds an unacountable amount of wealth that, yes CAN!, get rid of the poverty in Africa and South America, so why don't they? Because organized religion is only corruption.

In the Vatican City, what do you see everywhere? Paintings of God, hmm, isn't a 10 commandment telling us NOT to paint images of God or the Heavens above? I believe so... Once again, organized religion is corruption!

Westboro Baptist Church are some fucked up mofos. I mean, I can understand wanting to spread your religion. Most religions tell you to do this. But picketing soldiers funerals? thats fucked up. Thankfully, they got sued for that recently, and were fined like $11 mil.

Yeah, I just read about them getting fined over that today, I think the decision was made just this month. I wonder if they've put anything on their website about that yet.

What's funny is that they're probably preaching Christianity exactly as it is in the Bible, or more close to it than most Christians go these days.

That said:

Mankind is fucked up.

You probably don't have too much experience with the bible Jesuit, but it is true that if you read the bible for what it really is a lot of the stuff they are preaching is what's in there. That said, not even the most extreme bible literalists take a lot of what's in the bible literally for example:

“18 If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him, 19 his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town. 20 They shall say to the elders, "This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a profligate and a drunkard." 21 Then all the men of his town shall stone him to death. You must purge the evil from among you. All Israel will hear of it and be afraid.” -Deuteronomy 21:18-21

"11 If two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from his assailant, and she reaches out and seizes him by his private parts, 12 you shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity.”
-Deuteronomy 25:11-12

“11A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. 12I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. 13For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. 15But women will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.”
-1 Timothy 2:11-15

“19 'Keep my decrees.
'Do not mate different kinds of animals.
'Do not plant your field with two kinds of seed.
'Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material.”
-Leviticus 19:19

No church anywhere follows what the bible says, Christianity is in no way true to what is written in its "perfect holy texts". The fact that people still try to claim that they must follow this book perfectly to reach heaven is rediculous as none of them really attempt to read it and do that.

If they really want to talk about the decline of morals or society and how disgusting and immoral we have become, they just need to look in their book as well:

“20 "You are welcome at my house," the old man said. "Let me supply whatever you need. Only don't spend the night in the square." 21 So he took him into his house and fed his donkeys. After they had washed their feet, they had something to eat and drink.
22 While they were enjoying themselves, some of the wicked men of the city surrounded the house. Pounding on the door, they shouted to the old man who owned the house, "Bring out the man who came to your house so we can have sex with him."
23 The owner of the house went outside and said to them, "No, my friends, don't be so vile. Since this man is my guest, don't do this disgraceful thing. 24 Look, here is my virgin daughter, and his concubine. I will bring them out to you now, and you can use them and do to them whatever you wish. But to this man, don't do such a disgraceful thing."
25 But the men would not listen to him. So the man took his concubine and sent her outside to them, and they raped her and abused her throughout the night, and at dawn they let her go. 26 At daybreak the woman went back to the house where her master was staying, fell down at the door and lay there until daylight.
27 When her master got up in the morning and opened the door of the house and stepped out to continue on his way, there lay his concubine, fallen in the doorway of the house, with her hands on the threshold. 28 He said to her, "Get up; let's go." But there was no answer. Then the man put her on his donkey and set out for home.
29 When he reached home, he took a knife and cut up his concubine, limb by limb, into twelve parts and sent them into all the areas of Israel.”
-Judges 19:20-29

I'm not sure if we thinking of the same religion, but christianity is based on the teachings of Christ, that is the entire point in christianity. Or am I supposed to believe that to a Christian the words of the Son of God are of less importance than the words of thw Old Testament? If you are a Christian the words of Christ are surely supposed to take precedent over all else.

Of course, I may have a misunderstanding of Christianity, but I always assumed that it was largely centred around Christ.

Both Christ and Paul stress that the old laws, that is, the laws found in the Old Testament, have not been changed. If they were changeable, they would not be the infallible laws of God, would they? Rather, it is so impossible to follow them perfectly, that it is impossible not to be a sinner. So Christians believe that this is why Jesus had to come along to save mankind. However, the New Testament still stresses upholding and following the old laws.

I disagree, I believe most of Christianity today is Pauline Christianity. Paul defined his own set of rules from Acts to the Letters and Epistles. It is through Paul that a lot of contradiction occurs between what Christianity preaches today and what Moses originally wrote in Leviticus (or what was rewritten during Jewish captivity in the Babylonian Empire). Of course, contradiction can already be seen from what Jesus does in the Gospels and Leviticus, but that was just Jesus being an uppity smug mofo who thought he was above the Law.

Paul, however, directly tells sects and churches what the new Law is. He tells them how to be and act. Jesus just did the "do as I say, but do not do as I do" routine. Even though people would catch him contradicting what he preached at synagogue on the Sabbath, he would just give them a riddle and reminds them that his actions in no way replaces the Law until the end of time. I don't know, maybe I just have a thing against Saul. He was one of the Pharisees that condemned Jesus' followers after all. I just don't see how one goes condemning people, then speaks for them after the condemned are dead.

The OP gave me a couple of lulz. I love how that church is so openly belligerent.

*shrugs* Just seems to me a Christian would be more likely to place the words and teachings of the Son of God before any other. Or else I can't see how someone who places Christ's own teaching as secondary can be a Christian.

Or if I am wrong, at the very least I'm sure Christ wouldn't be teaching in the same way as the Westboro Church.

Like I said though, perhaps my understanding of what it means to be a Christian is skewed, but if I were a Christian, he would take precedent and be the most important thing to me.

Last I checked Jesus actually preached: Love, Understanding, and Forgiveness.

These people don't do any. Congradulations, they managed to find a couple passages in the Bible and turn that into an entire religion. Goddamnit, people focus so much on these insignificant passages, they lose sight of what the religion is really about.

Gandhi had most Christians hit perfectly when he said: "I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ."
