You know. One is an article (1), the other is more of an adjective (2).

1. I know the guy you are taking about.
2. I am thé guy you want.

How do stress the e in the word the in writing? I guess English is too good for things like an accent, or a diaeresis, and such?

I meant written, not typed.

As in "I am thEE guy you want."? My computer unfortunately won't produce IPA.

You might be able to place emphasis with commas. They'd suggest slight pauses in dialogue on either side of "the guy". Other than that, you might just have to hope the context makes it clear to your readers.

I meant written, not typed.

Usually words that are italized when typed are underlined when written. Like species and genus names in science.

Would it not be the I'm, that has the emphasis in the second sentence?

The guy is just an object, but with emphasis on the I'm, it places the emphasis on the object...Possibly wrong here, just doing things the way I would.
