View Full Version : So I want to learn Dutch
Simply put I want to learn Dutch. I'm already fluent in Norwegian and English and have been trained in both those languages since birth. I see there are two options for going into Dutch, either learning it from Norwegian or from English. I obviously can't afford a teacher so I'll have to become self-taught, perhaps with the help of some Dutch e-friends. I figured it should be easier to learn the language from Norwegian, as they have more in common. However, it might be hard for me to find a good tutorial for Norwegian to Dutch. What does totse suggest? Does anyone know good, free online sources for learning Dutch, and perhaps a dictionary?
I also hear of this new method to learn foreign languages. That is not by studying them, but listening and reading them. What are the advantages and disadvantages of these methods?
Any other advice/help?

Geen idee over die nieuwe leermethodes maar als je een Nederlandse e-friend zoekt dan wil ik dat wel worden.
If you understand that, you're a good on your way to speaking Dutch. I must warn you though, its not an easy language. Its basically English, Scandinavian, German, French and some Latin put together with lots of grammatical exceptions for each. Also it somehow contains lots of words that other germanic language share but it doesn't.
