This will be an unmoderated discussion thread concerning the debate between Obbe and Hare_Geist. Please stick to relevant topics.

Is Obbe going to show? He's been missing in action since the discussion about doing this began.

I asked AngryFemme to mail him about this, since I am not able to.
I look forward to seeing Obbe get his ass handed to him, since he does nothing but talk shit in circles. I'll be sure to cue up the fight music from the original Star Trek when reading that thread.

Obbe will surface sooner or later.
In the event he doesn't want to participate, we should try to drum up another willing poster (or two) who would be willing to take part in a formal debate. Experimentation is fun, and who knows - it might spawn a whole new trend here.
Edit: Kiko, nice job on the *official* thread. I'll sticky it when/if Obbe (or another participant) jumps on the task.

Yes, hopefully this will play out better than my attempt at a weekly book discussion club in Humanities. It didn't even make it to week 1 :(

charizard, if you don't have anything to say that's even remotely relevant to topic - please don't post here.

I can't go ahead with my post until Obbe posts. It's not a counterargument unless there's an argument to counter.

S'why I said the sticky would be pending until Obbe (or another participant) agrees to participate.

Methinks Obbe knows better...

Ugh.
If you were really a creepy stalker who monitored my online time, you would have realized that for the past few weeks, I haven't posted much if anything at all during most weekdays ... Tuesdays through Thursdays specifically. I suppose I can be thankful for that.
Anyways, this one-on-one debate you want to have with me about my concept of God ... sure lets do it. I was planning on creating a thread explaining the whole thing anyways, the opening post of this would serve the same purpose.
However, theres a few things about it I don't like.
First, if I'm going to be debating with you, I want you to hold back on the two-dollar words during this, and type in terms you think would be easier to understand instead.
Also, a lot of these rules bother me.
Breaking up your opponent's post in the fashion of a typical post is not permitted. All quotations of your opponent must be handled in the same manner as they would in a formal essay. Use of the "quote" tags, or any other method of breaking up a post, is not permitted.
I don't see why. I think that makes your points easier to understand and deliver.
Time Allotment Between Posts: Ideally within 48 hours, but not rigid.
I get very busy during the week, and will probably be on the weekends this month too. I will post as often as I can, but it couldn't be within 48 hours except for on the weekends.
Lastly, I do not like how this suddenly developed in my absence, without my consideration. But whatever. Lets see what is to be said of my complaints. I will begin writing up my intro and post it soon, though not tonight.

Yay! I knew you'd come through for us, Obbe. :)
I guess the not-using-quote-tags rule is so that the same text isn't repeated over and over again and is mostly to accommodate the reading audience. I see what you're saying about it being easier to deliver your point-by-point refutations, but the same end could be achieved by just responding in chronological order to each point/counterpoint.
I bet we could slide on the 48-hour rule. What do you think, Kiko?
Also, I don't think any of us realized that you were absent when this all transpired. Besides, Kiko brought up the idea in this thread (http://www.totse.com/community/showthread.php?t=2073046&page=2), about 4 hours after you challenged Broke Prophet to debate with you.
For what it's worth, I can vouch that it's nothing even close to resembling entrapment or a conspiracy against Obbe, but rather a mere experiment to see how some structured debate would fly around here.
I'm sure I also speak for others when I say that I'm eagerly anticipating your posting the intro.
No pressure, of course!
I bet we could slide on the 48-hour rule.
Well what kind of consequence would there be anyways? Take my birthday away? :D
Kiko brought up the idea about 4 hours after you challenged Broke Prophet to debate with you.
And I left my house shortly after making that post. Four hours later, I would have been already very high and giddy on laughing gas, smoking a joint with some friends and no where near my house.
I'm sure I also speak for others when I say that I'm eagerly anticipating your posting the intro.
I hope its clear, understandable, and enlightening.

Yes, the 48-hour rule isn't strict. Just let us know of your schedule on this thread Obbe, so we atleast know when to expect a response. The reason for not breaking up posts is that it often does little to progress the debate and would end up in forever needing more posts to cut the last post up and refute it sentence by sentence. This is meant to be just like a formal oral debate, so you may bring up specific points, but it shouldn't be pure quotation/refutation point-by-point. Each new reply should work toward moving the debate forward just as much as objecting to the opponent.

Hey, it is to those of us that are actively campaigning in ObbeWatch '08.

Now that Obbe has completely declined the debate, can we just automatically tell-him-to-go-fuck-himself when he jacks a thread with his bullshit?
